  • Publication number: 20070272331
Abstract: A method for the production of a locally limited diffusion layer on a metal component is disclosed. In an embodiment, the method includes the steps of application of a paste containing Cr, Si and/or Al, and containing activators, to the areas of the metal component to be coated. The paste is solidified to form a donor pack. The regions which are not to be coated and are adjacent to the donor pack are covered with a diffusion-blocking powder pack. The component is heated to a temperature above 900° C. in order to carry out the alitation, siliconization and/or chromation. The method can be used in the production of turbine rotors.

  • Patent number: 7002114
Abstract: An improved variable resistor at least partially compensates for non-linearities in an electrical circuit containing a heating element, for example, a thin-film heating element. A controllable heater includes a heating element, a voltage source (for example, a standard AC electrical outlet) coupled to the heating element, and a variable resistor coupled to the heating element and voltage source. The variable resistor includes a fixed resistive element (for example, one or more thin-film resistors) and a moveable element such as a slider control. The moveable element adjustably contacts the fixed resistive element at a contact point associated with the position such that the variable resistor has a resistance that is at least partially non-linearly related to the position, but wherein the heating element has a dissipated power that is at least partially linearly related to the position of the variable resistor.

  • Patent number: 6920282
Abstract: A vapor-dispensing device exhibiting a range of evaporation rates corresponding to a discernable range of sensory fragrance intensity levels. The vapor-delivery device includes one or more control structure (e.g., a heat control, a vent control, and/or the like) configured to allow a user to specify the evaporation rate of the vapor-dispensing device over a continuous or discretized range of values. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, the two extremes of operation correspond to a range of sensory fragrance intensity values that span at least three minimum perceivable intensity zones.
