  • Publication number: 20100160119
Abstract: An apparatus comprises: a first cylindrical handle rotatable about a first cylindrical axis; a second cylindrical handle rotatable about a second cylindrical axis disposed such that the first handle and the second handle form an angle of less than 180 degrees; and a resistance adjuster operable to adjust a rotational resistance of the first handle about the first cylindrical axis and the second handle about the second cylindrical axis.

  • Patent number: 7665697
Abstract: An improved scissor-type clamp includes two opposing clam shell type members, one male and one female, that pivot together, are biased outwardly by coil springs and are held together by a thumbscrew. Embodiments feature rectangular and tapered opposed clam shell portions and one embodiment includes identical clam shell members.

  • Patent number: 5450860
Abstract: The present invention comprises an improved device and method for plicating tissue. The apparatus of the present invention employs a ligament of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene or similar material which is of sufficient width to allow it to be retained in place by sewing through it using conventional sutures. The present invention is particularly applicable to the repair of heart valves where it can be relatively rapidly installed around a weakened heart valve yet is not susceptible to "guitar string" pull-out or similar problems.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 31, 1993
Date of Patent: September 19, 1995
    Assignee: W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.
    Inventor: Michael T. O'Connor
  • Patent number: 5437916
Abstract: Flexible printed circuits comprising cobalt circuitry electrolessly deposited on an activated ink coating prepared by heating a wet ink comprising a polymer, e.g. a vinyl polymer such as polyvinyl chloride or polyvinyl alcohol or an unsaturated polymer such as polybutadiene, and a Group 1B or 8 compound, e.g. palladium dichloride, which is adapted to drying at room temperature to a catalytically inert ink. Selective areas of the ink activated by application of heat or light are catalytic to electroless deposition of cobalt.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 8, 1994
Date of Patent: August 1, 1995
    Assignee: Monsanto Company
Inventors: Albert W. Morgan, James P. Brozek, James D. Capistran, Michael T. O'Connor, Jr.
  • Patent number: 5328750
Abstract: Flexible printed circuits comprising copper circuitry electrolessly deposited on an activated ink coating prepared by heating a wet ink comprising a polymer, e.g. polyvinyl chloride or a butadiene polymer, and a Group 1B or 8 compound, e.g. palladium dichloride, which is adapted to drying at room temperature to a catalytically inert ink. Selective areas of the ink activated by application of heat or light, e.g. a laser, are catalytic to electroless deposition of copper.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: July 12, 1994
    Assignee: Monsanto Company
Inventors: Albert W. Morgan, James P. Brozek, James D. Capistran, Michael T. O'Connor, Jr.
  • Patent number: 5075037
Abstract: Catalytically inert films comprising complexes of polymer with a compound of a Group 1B or Group 8 metal at unusually low proportions of metal can be selectively activated, e.g. to provide a catalytic surface. Such films can be advantageously activatable to electroless deposition, e.g. of oxidation resistant layers of copper.

  • Patent number: 4900618
Abstract: Oxidation-resistant, electrolessly deposited metal coatings, e.g. of copper, can be provided on a variety of substrates such as fibers and films. Precursor substrates have nascent or actual clusters of catalytic metal with dimensions less than 100 nanometers, e.g. about 10 nanometers. Disclosed methods can produce electrically conductive, copper-coated PET or acrylic multifilament with a resistance of less than 20 ohms/meter.
