The user disposable sleeve can include holding means configured to releasably secure the sleeve to the elongate sound controlling structure and fitment means configured to conform to an inner surface of an ear. The fitment means can be fixedly disposed over the holding means.

A sleeve configured to at least in part extend into the ear canal of a user during use may be attached to the projection. The adapter may additionally include one or more unobstructed orifices extending through the wall of the adapter between the first surface and the second surface. The one or more unobstructed orifices may allow leakage of acoustical energy from the adapter, thus modifying the level of sound energy at certain frequencies transmitted to the ear canal of a user.
