  • Patent number: 12144299
Abstract: A method for the mobilization of a transposable element is provided. The method comprises the steps of a) providing an inhibitor of DNA methylation, and/or an inhibitor of transcription, and b) contacting the inhibitor(s) with a cell comprising inactivated transposable elements, yielding a cell with mobilized transposable elements. In a second aspect of the invention a method for increasing the genetic and/or epigenetic variation in a plurality of eukaryotic organisms is provided. The method comprises the steps of i. providing an inhibitor of DNA methylation and/or an inhibitor of transcription, ii. contacting the organism with the inhibitor(s) and iii. propagating the organism.

  • Patent number: 10552698
Abstract: A system performs processing of biometric information to create multiple templates. This allows biometric systems to be flexible and interact with a plurality of vendors' technologies. Specifically, a biometric sample is captured from a sensor and transmitted to a processing component. The biometric sample is then processed by a first algorithm to yield a biometric template and the template is stored and associated with a record identifier. The biometric sample is also processed by a second algorithm to yield a second template. The second template is stored and associated with the record identifier.

  • Patent number: 9042607
Abstract: Dispensing units for dispensing items, such as in a healthcare facility, are linked in a network. The dispensing units use a fingerprint to authenticate users. The fingerprints on a short list reflect recent authorization, and permit access without other identifying information. Dispensing units in the network may use different fingerprint scanning technologies, but are made compatible by enrolling fingerprints using the different technologies. Two or more reference fingerprints may be stored at a dispensing unit, permitting either a primary fingerprint or alternate fingerprint to gain access to that dispensing unit. During enrollment of a user, fingerprints for a user may be “fast tracked” for registration based upon a quality determination.

  • Patent number: 8237769
Abstract: A videotelephony system has an electronically controllable camera with a field of view, a visual token disposed within the field of view, and a camera controller. The camera controller is configured to detect the visual token and reconfigure the field of view relative to a detected position of the visual token.

  • Publication number: 20070248281
Abstract: A system and method for reducing distance-based distortion in a camera image of an object, where the distanced-based distortion is due to differences in distance from the camera to different parts of the object. In one approach, the distortion is reduced by estimating distances to different parts of the object and then generating a reprojected image of the object dependent upon the estimated distances and upon a virtual viewpoint that is more distant than the camera from the object. In a further approach, the image is warped such that points in the image match corresponding points in one or more stored templates. In a still further approach, if excessive distortion is present in the image, the camera zoom is increased and a magnified image is displayed, prompting a person to move farther from the camera thereby reducing the distortion.

  • Publication number: 20060267927
Abstract: A user interface controller of a handheld electronic device (100) that has a camera that generates video images presents (1005) information on a display (105) of the handheld electronic device, processes (1010) the video images to track a three dimensional position of a directing object (260) that is within a field of view (225) of the camera, generates (1015) a two dimensional position of the directing object that is used to control a corresponding location in a scene on the display, and controls (1020) a function of the handheld electronic device in response to a comparison of the track of the directing device to a virtual surface (805, 810, 920, 925) that is defined relative to the handheld electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20060036947
Abstract: A user interface controller of a handheld electronic device (100) that has a camera that generates video images presents (1105) information on a display (105) of the handheld electronic device, processes (1110) the video images to track at least one of a position and orientation of a directing object (260) that is within a field of view (225) of the camera, and modifies (1115) at least one scene presented on the display in response to a track of the directing object. Modification of scenes may include selecting one or more scene objects, moving a cursor object, and adjusting a viewing angle of successive scenes.

  • Patent number: 6524718
Abstract: A metallic object, having a metallic substrate of a valve metal or a valve metal alloy inclusive of intermetallic phases, and a thin polyphase oxide coating, is disclosed. The polyphase oxide coating has a metal oxide phase and at least one other organic and/or inorganic phase. The polyphase oxide coating is produced by bringing the metallic substrate into contact with an organic and/or inorganic component to be integrated into the polyphase oxide coating such that the inorganic and/or organic phases are present at or in the direct vicinity of the substrate surface and by simultaneously or subsequently anodically polarizing the substrate material in an electrolytic solution.

  • Patent number: 5076238
Abstract: With a process and an apparatus for cold-start control in an electronic internal combustion engine system, the combustion chambers of the internal combustion engine are supplied, during starting, with the increased fuel feed. The fuel feed per an ignition interval (TD.sub.n) is effected by a plurality of short cold-start injection pulses generated at increased frequency at linear time intervals with respect to one another in respective ignition intervals. This frequency control replaces the normal formation of fuel injection pulses corresponding to half-periods of crankshaft rotation, during starting, and is cancelled upon commencement of preset fuel reduction thresholds. Owing to the fuel atomisation attained, there results a spontaneously ignitable mixture, so that a cold start is still possible even at extremely cold temperatures.
