  • Publication number: 20240141834
Abstract: A gas turbine engine that defines a radial direction and axial direction. The gas turbine engine includes a compressor section that includes a high pressure compressor. The high pressure compressor includes an aft-most compressor stage. The aft-most compressor stage includes a rotor, a low pressure shaft, a high pressure shaft drivingly coupled to the high pressure compressor. The high pressure shaft includes a central spool member and a forward spool member. The forward spool member extending between the central spool member and the aft-most compressor stage. The aft-most compressor stage further includes an air guide coupled to the aft-most compressor stage and the high pressure shaft. The air guide and a radially inward side of the forward spool member together defines an air flow passage for providing a cooling air flow.

  • Patent number: 10443422
Abstract: An apparatus relating to a rim seal for gas turbine engine comprising a wing extending into a buffer cavity with at least one set of protuberances including a first protuberance extending into the buffer cavity and a second protuberance extending from the wing into the buffer cavity, with the first and second protuberances being axially spaced from each other.

  • Patent number: 10240461
Abstract: A stator rim structure for a gas turbine engine comprises a stator having an end wall and a discourager defining a channel therebetween. The end wall is adjacent to a hot gas flow and the discourager is adjacent to a purge flow. A rotor has an angel wing extending into the channel. At least one supply passage is disposed within the stator and extends through the discourager and at least one aperture fluidly couples the supply passage with the channel. A flow of cooling air is fed from the supply passage into the aperture and into the channel to form a fluidic dam discouraging ingestion of the hot gas flow.

  • Patent number: 6439842
Abstract: A stator case for a gas turbine engine having a stator and a rotor. The rotor has a plurality of circumferential rows of blades. Each blade extends radially outward from a root to a tip. The case includes a tubular shell extending axially between a forward end and an aft end. The shell has an interior surface defining a hollow interior sized and shaped for receiving at least a portion of the rotor of the gas turbine engine. The case also includes a circular forward flange extending radially outward from the forward end of the shell and a circular aft flange extending radially outward from the aft end of the shell. In addition, the case includes a circular rib extending radially outward from the shell between adjacent rows of blades. The rib is sized and shaped for adjusting transient deflections of the shell to generally match transient deflections of the tips of the plurality of rotor blades to reduce a transient clearance between the interior surface of the tubular shell and the tips of the rotor blades.
