Patent number: 8839325Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method of managing video content quality. The method includes receiving performance data at a video quality prediction system where the performance data is related to a plurality of network elements of a network path linking a video-head end with a set-top box device. The method also includes predicting, based at least partially on the performance data, a quality of video content received at the set-top box device and determining whether the predicted quality of video content is greater than or equal to a video quality threshold. In addition, the method includes identifying at least one of the plurality of network elements not satisfying a performance requirement, based on the performance data, when the predicted quality of video content is less than the video quality threshold. Further, the method includes outputting data indicating the at least one network element not satisfying the performance requirement.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2007Date of Patent: September 16, 2014Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property I, L.P.Inventors: Zhi Li, Canhui Ou, Michael Tisiker, Donggen Zhang, Xiaochuan Yi, Raghvendra Savoor, Orestis Manthoulis, Christine Bouamalay

Patent number: 8401589Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods are disclosed for managing text-based services on mobile devices during the operation of a vehicle. Proactive service-controls use a time of day and location based services to determine that a mobile device is in a moving vehicle. Reactive position-awareness techniques use near-field communication (NFC) to determine that the mobile device is being operated by a user in a driver's seat of the vehicle. Upon satisfying both these determinations, specific text-based services such as messaging, browsing, etc. can be disabled by either the mobile device itself or by a network entity. The present invention can also be extended to managing other mobile device's usages in vehicles, including phone calls, online gaming, etc.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 2010Date of Patent: March 19, 2013Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property I, L.P.Inventors: Yali Liu, Raghvendra G. Savoor, Stephen Albert Sposato, Michael Tisiker
