The apparatus includes a storage medium, display and scanner that allow medical personnel to quickly and reliably track and monitor samples collected from patients, such as information about the type, location, and timing of a collected sample. An unable to complete function labels incompletely collected samples or otherwise notifies the processing facility. Label sets and/or messages are generated to guide medical personnel when performing orders. Errors are linked to collection events for variance tracking. Temporary identifier labels are generated for containers and such when no order is pending. Order of draw procedures are communicated to medical personnel at the collection site.

Abstract: An electronic network is disclosed for effectively providing a technique to administer medical treatment. The technique pertains to at least one patient and at least one unit for medical treatment. The technique involves receiving patient data and unit data and evaluating at least the patient data and/or unit data to determine whether a match with preexisting data exists, which thereby generates an indication to the user to not proceed with the medical treatment in the absence of such a match.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for an improved patient information management system in a medical setting. The present invention relates to a remote patient information system and method comprising workstations, handheld computers, and wireless portable printers or portable-computing and labeling systems that facilitate the fulfillment of orders for patient specimen collection performed manually in hospital environments. A handheld device receives and uses printer identifier information in order to establish a wireless temporary local area network thereby causing the printer to be dedicated to printing information solely from the handheld device for a predetermined number of patients. Information such as labels or messages are printed in order to facilitate tracking of patient information.
