  • Patent number: 5831001
Abstract: Described herein are oligopeptides useful to inhibit replication of herpesviruses, especially herpes simplex viruses. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the oligopeptide is a D-arginine nonamer having N- and C-terminal protecting groups, which, at a 5 uM concentration, exhibits greater than 95% inhibition of HSV-1 replication, in a standard assay.

  • Patent number: 5674849
Abstract: An anti-viral composition includes a synergistic combination of an anti-viral nucleoside analogue, which may inhibit a virus-specific enzyme, such as viral thymidine kinase and reverse transcriptase, an anti-viral oligonucleotide compound having from 6 to 12 amino acid residues substantially all of which are D-arginine residues, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. A method for treating a viral infection is also described.

  • Patent number: 5633230
Abstract: Described herein are anti-cytomegalovirus peptides. In a preferred embodiment, the peptide is acetyl-[D-Arg].sub.9 -NH.sub.2. The use of these peptides, either per se or in combination with other anti-CMV compounds, is disclosed as an effective method for controlling CMV infection.

  • Patent number: 4919372
Abstract: The invention concerns a lead-through transit for cables 3 or pipes of the kind having a frame 1 of the opening 2 is filled by a series of modular resilient lead-through blocks 4 and blank blocks 5 arranged in rows separated by stayplates 6 with a compression and packer assembly 7 clamping and holding the blocks 4,5 and cables 3 in sealed engagement. The lead-through blocks 4 comprise two complementary half-blocks 40 that provide, when assembled together around a cable, a passageway 41 for the cable. Each half-block 40 has a series of axially spaced semi-annular lands 42 separated by recesses 43. The lands 42 provide axially spaced sealing faces for engagement with the cable while the recesses 43 enable resilient deformation of the block to accommodate variations in cable size. To assist in such resilient conformation of the half-blocks 40, it is preferred that the half-block has recesses 44 formed on the outer faces that are aligned with the lands 42.

  • Patent number: 4733016
Abstract: In a lead-through transit for cables or pipes 3 of the kind in which a series of modular resilient blocks 4 or blanks 5 are mounted in a frame 1 through which the cables 3 extend, the invention is directed to the compression and packer assembly 7 by which the opening through the frame 1 is closed and pressure applied to the assembled cables 3, blocks 4 and blanks 5 with stayplates 6 between each row of blocks. The compression and packer assembly 7 comprises a rigid plate 8 which seats on the assembled blocks 4 and blanks 5 for engagement by a compression bolt 33 mounted on the frame 1 to apply a load to the plate 8.

  • Patent number: 4630848
Abstract: A releasable tube coupling comprises a body providing a housing in which an annular seal and clamping ring are located and secured by a retainer and, a releaser slidably supported by the retainer for limited axial movement relative to the housing. The seal is of generally Z-section having outer and inner flanges connected by an inclined web convergent towards the inside of the housing. The clamping ring is mounted into the seal and has a plurality of spaced apart radially inwardly directed inclined teeth which overlie the web on the inner face of the seal for engagement with the outer surface of a tube received within the housing to retain the tube in the housing. The teeth are displaced away from the tube to permit axial withdrawal the tube on inwards movement of the releaser which acts on the teeth through the seal web.
