    Abstract: A customized hearing assistance device system, or CHADS, including hearing profiles generated by a digital signal processor (DSP) device is also set forth. A microprocessor, configured to store the hearing profiles, each of the profiles including a plurality of audio parameters, is provided. The microprocessor can be operatively connected to an audio input and an audio output of the system. A modification interface is provided. The modification interface is operatively connected to the microprocessor. The modification interface is configured to selectively adjust any parameter of one of the hearing profiles, whereby a user of the CHADS can actuate the microprocessor to select one of the hearing profiles stored in the microprocessor. The user can employ the modification interface to adjust one or more parameters of the selected hearing profile in response to a change in the ambient sound environment.

    Abstract: A binaural hearing aid system for a user is set forth. The system includes a casing adapted and constructed to encase a hearing aid system suitable for wearing below the neck of the user. A first digital signal processor, having an audio input from a first microphone of the hearing system, is also provided. The first digital signal processor produces a first audio output corresponding to a first hearing profile. A second digital signal processor having the audio input from the second microphone of the hearing system is also provided. The second digital signal processor produces a second audio output corresponding to a second hearing profile.

    Abstract: A personal listening device in a handheld form factor includes an input port for receiving an audio signal, a processor for selecting equalizer settings responsive to a selected hearing profile, an equalizer for equalizing the audio signal according to the equalizer settings, and an output port for outputting the equalized audio signal to a speaker, headphone, or other audio output device. The personal listening device also includes a tone generator and user input device coupled to the processor, configured to administer a sequence of tones, generate audio instructions, and receive user input, thereby administering a hearing test and generating a user hearing profile. The device may be operated to administer multiple tests and store multiple hearing profiles, and to provide hearing profiles to other devices.
