  • Patent number: 5975500
Abstract: A fence post and support base are made of cast concrete. The base has a substantially planar bottom and an upper surface that is essentially parallel with the bottom of the base. The post extends substantially perpendicular from the upper surface of the base. The planar bottom surface of the base has a substantially larger area than the area encompassed by the interface between the post and the upper surface of the base so that the base provides a sturdy, support for the post. The base and the post are preferably cast as separate members, and a connecting mechanism is provided for interconnecting the post with the base.

  • Patent number: 5598679
Abstract: A cast concrete block that is cast on its side and can be separated into at least three construction blocks to be used in constructing a retaining wall system. The cast concrete block has a top face and a bottom face. The block is bounded by an elongate base side, two elongate edge sides and an elongate top side. First and second elongate splitting grooves are formed in at least one of the top face and bottom face. The splitting grooves extend between the top side and the base side. The splitting grooves are spaced inwardly from the opposite first and second edge sides. Preferably, each of the splitting grooves are paired with a corresponding secondary groove in an opposite face of the block so that each splitting groove and its corresponding secondary groove are parallel with each other and lie in a common plane that is substantially perpendicular to the broad faces of the block.

  • Patent number: 5165824
Abstract: An elongate shoring device capable of supporting a high longitudinal loading with the ability to yield uniformly in a direction along the longitudinal dimension of the shoring device when the longitudinal loading on the shoring device exceeds a preset magnitude. The shoring device comprises an inner elongate tube which is received within an open end of an outer elongate tube for longitudinal, telescopic movement within the outer tube. A storage compartment having a variable volume is formed by the inner and outer tube when the inner tube is received through the open end of the outer tube, with the volume of the storage compartment decreasing as the inner tube moves in its longitudinal, telescopic movement into the outer tube. A solid, non-compressible material is contained in the storage compartment, and a relief opening is provided in communication with the storage compartment.

  • Patent number: 4998397
Abstract: An alignment and lateral support member for use in laying common concrete blocks. The support member comprises an elongate body piece of rigid material having a length which is greater than the width of concrete blocks with which the support member is to be used. A first appendage extends from a first face of the body piece. The first appendage has a stop surface extending substantially perpendicular to the first face of the body piece, with the stop surface of the first appendage being positioned a distance from the first end of the body piece so that when the stop surface of the first appendage engages an outer surface of the sidewall of a first concrete block, with the first face of the body piece lying adjacent to the first block, the body piece spans from one sidewall of the first block to the other sidewall of the first block. A second appendage extends from a second face of the body piece.
