Patent number: 12122931Abstract: A method of treating a surface of wood products to inhibit the uptake of moisture into the wood by providing an aqueous formulation comprising polyethylene-vinyl acetate in water, 2-99 percent polyethylene-vinyl acetate by weight. The aqueous formulation is applied to the surface of wood products, wherein the wood products remain outdoors or in a damp environment having 60% or greater relative humidity. The aqueous formulation is allowed to dry and form a micro-film on the surface of the wood products. The moisture content in the wood products is maintained at 16 percent or less. A pesticide effect on the surface of the wood products is produced, inhibiting infestation of the wood products by insects.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2023Date of Patent: October 22, 2024Inventors: Michael Vance Berry, Steve Mills, Michael Watson

Patent number: 11655389Abstract: This invention provides method of treating a surface of exterior wood outside of buildings to inhibit the uptake of moisture into the wood by spraying on the surface of the wood an aqueous formulation consisting of one or more film forming non-chloride, long-chain polymers. The aqueous formulation forms a clear micro-film. Preferably, the long-chain polymer is polyethylene-vinyl acetate, polyurethane, or a combination thereof, wherein the clear micro-film contains no detectable volatile organic compounds. A clear colorant is added to the aqueous formulation to verify treatment. The clear colored micro-film maintains moisture content in the wood at 16 percent or less, allows for continued visual inspection of the surface of the wood for termite damage, does not rub off, get diluted with water, or become damaged by workers and pets who come into contact with the clear colored microfilm.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2021Date of Patent: May 23, 2023Inventors: Michael Vance Berry, Steve Mills, Michael Watson

Publication number: 20130239666Abstract: A method and device for the detection of low-level harmful substances in a large volume of fluid comprising using a concentrator system to produce a retentate and analyzing the retantate for the presence of at one harmful substance. The concentrator system performs a method comprising pumping at least 10 liters of fluid from a sample source through a filter While pumping, the concentrator system diverts retentate from the filter into a container. The concentrator system also recirculates at least part of the retentate in the container again through the filter. The concentrator system controls the speed of the pump with a control system thereby maintaining a fluid pressure less than 25 psi during the pumping of the fluid; monitors the quantity of retentate within the container with a control system, and maintains a reduced volume level of retentate and a target volume of retentate.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 10, 2012Publication date: September 19, 2013Inventors: Michael Vance Carpenter, Lyle Gene Roybal, Alan Lindquist, Vincente Gallardo

Publication number: 20080316213Abstract: An apparatus and method are described for displaying a topological graph that allows a user to navigate through a history of previous topology displays to increase the user's understanding and awareness of the state of the topology. In a preferred embodiment, a topology display mechanism receives state changes to a topology of a computer network and stores a sequence of graphs that reflect the changes that are made to the topology. The topology display mechanism also allows the user to step through the sequence of stored topology graphs using “video” type controls to change the display of the topology graphs. In other embodiments, the topology display mechanism displays the changes in the topology as a sequence of graphs that form an animation to give the user a graphical visualization of the changes from one topology graph in the sequence to the next.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 2, 2008Publication date: December 25, 2008Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Stephen Troy Eagen, Anthony Wayne Erwin, Timothy Charles Mossing, Carl Clair Pecinovsky, Brian Owen Wood, Michael Vance

Publication number: 20070193831Abstract: The self-elevating platform scaffolding includes a horizontal work platform suspended from a vertical mast tower and a unique lift mechanism mounted to the work platform, which raises and lowers the platform along the length of the tower. The lift mechanism uses a pinion wheel that directly engages a mast tower to raise and lower the work platform along the mast towers. The pinion wheel has a plurality of radially spaced cogs that seat within crescent shaped openings in the mast tower. The lift mechanism is mounted to the work platform adjacent the mast tower such that rotation of the pinion wheel causes the wheel to “walk” up and down the mast tower to raise and lower the platform. The geometric configuration of the pinion wheel is designed so that at least two of the cogs are always in contact with the mast tower. As the pinion wheel turns, each successive cog seats within an adjacent crescent slot in the mast tower with its contact edge bearing against the bottom edge of tower opening.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 17, 2006Publication date: August 23, 2007Inventor: Michael Vance

Publication number: 20040171062Abstract: The present invention provides methods of designing ligands that specifically bind to target molecules by testing a set of distinct compounds to identify compound that bind to member of a molecular family of interest. Those compounds that show binding activity can be used as a starting point for ligand design. Unlike previous methods, even compounds that bind with only low affinity are of interest and can be used. Common chemical structures of binding molecules including low affinity binding molecules are identified, thereby providing molecular scaffolds. Co-crystals of the protein and the molecular scaffolds can be formed and analyzed by X-ray crystallography to determine the orientation of the scaffold compounds at the binding site of the molecule.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2003Publication date: September 2, 2004Applicant: Plexxikon, Inc.Inventors: Klaus-Peter Hirth, Michael Vance Milburn
