    Abstract: Slip and protective label assemblies are provided, as well as methods of manufacture and application to a receiving face. In one case, the assembly includes a slip layer and a protective layer, with the slip layer divided into a slip portion that is printed upon, a surrounding border portion, and a tab portion. The reverse side of the slip layer is coated with a release coating such that the slip layer may be removably laminated to the protective layer using an adhesive. In another case, direct thermal stock is laminated to an intermediate layer to form a slip laminate, which is adhered to a protective layer to form the assembly. In all cases, the border portion of the slip layer or slip laminate may be removed to attach the label to a receiving face, and the protective layer may be peeled away to provide access to the printed slip portion.

    Abstract: An apparatus for reading variable area optically encoded soundtracks has a light source, a lens system and a detector. The detector can be a linear array, for example a CCD array, with an integral slit, with the lens system imaging the soundtrack in the plane of the slit. The apparatus includes circuitry for processing the detector output signal. The processing circuitry can be provided with a feedback control circuit to condition the detector output signal so that the resulting audio signal is not affected by variations in the film or electronic components. Further, a circuit can be included for detecting whether an analogue or digital soundtrack is present, and automatically switching the output of an amplification circuit between analogue and digital outputs.

    Abstract: A pulse generator for energizing a coil with periodic bipolar current pulses of predetermined aplitude, period and repetition rate and of generally square wave form. The coil to be energized is connected in parallel with a capacitor to form a closed under damped tuned circuit of predetermined frequency. Current flowing through the coil is suddenly interrupted, causing a sinusoidal voltage to be generated across the tuned circuit. The current flowing through the coil rapidly changes according to a cosine function. At a time when the current has reached its maximum positive or negative value or slightly before, controlled rectifiers in the circuit between the power source and the tuned circuit are caused to conduct thus maintaining the current in the coil at a level substantially equal to the maximum value. At the end of a predetermined interval, the supply of direct current to the tuned circuit again abruptly is interrupted, thus defining another edge of a pulse.
