The log of information relating to the power equipment may be a web log or a wiki. The content management system can be included in a web server in the power equipment, the user interface can include a web browser, and the network can include a LAN, a private WAN and/or a public WAN such as the Internet.

    Abstract: An industrial human-machine interface device that permits speech-controlled navigation through a menu using a speech-recognition processor. The speech-recognition processor is coupled to a microcontroller and a display. The microcontroller is interfaced with a power metering device which monitors a power signal in a circuit. To obtain a reading of a characteristic of the power signal, the operator speaks a spoken keyword into a microphone of the human-machine interface device. The speech-recognition processor converts the keyword into an identification word which is outputted by the processor to the microcontroller. The microcontroller polls the output of the processor, and upon detection of an identification word, executes a function associated therewith. Menu navigation among consecutive or nonconsecutive menu levels is performed by speaking one or more predetermined keywords.

The memory is a sector-erasable flash EEPROM having stored therein programmable logic and main functionality firmware for execution by the generator. The logic is programmable by a user and executable by the generator to increase operations performed by the metering unit.

    Abstract: An improved metering unit is described which samples a power-related waveform and simultaneously captures its analog signal parameters for temperature and all phases of voltage and current, providing a more accurate and clearer waveform sample that effectively detects harmonics problems and does not require signal interpolation methods. The improved metering unit comprises signal conditioning circuitry interfacing with the power line for sensing temperature and all desired phases of voltage and current parameters of the waveform. The metering unit further comprises a processor having a timer output. The timer output controls track and hold circuitry and an A/D converter. The timer output places the track and hold circuitry in the hold mode to simultaneously capture temperature and all the desired phases of voltage and current of the waveform, and, at the same time, the timer output triggers the A/D converter to convert the captured analog signal parameters into digital sample values.

    Abstract: Firmware is downloaded to a metering unit located in a distributed power network carrying a power-related waveform, where the metering unit senses power-related parameters associated with the power-related waveform and generates and transmits data representative thereof. The metering unit is provided with a sector-erasable flash EEPROM having a first section for storing main functionality firmware and a second section for storing boot code. The boot code includes a reset portion for resetting the metering unit and a firmware update section for downloading external firmware to the first section. The firmware update section includes a writing routine for writing the external firmware to the first section. The metering unit is also provided with a volatile RAM. The external firmware is downloaded to the first section of the EEPROM by executing the firmware update section.
