  • Patent number: 9244452
Abstract: A design diagram representation for an industrial operator interface that combines configuration and presentation aspects is provided. The design diagram representation illustrates state transitions, interlocks, and/or permissives for an industrial process or device as a dataflow diagram, a state diagram, or other such diagrams, and renders live state information for the process or device as numeric indicators, string indicators, color-animated state icons, and the like. Flow lines of the diagram are highlighted based on the displayed state information to convey an overall status of the process. In addition, the design diagram representation includes one or more data fields that allow an operator to modify or set a numeric variable for the industrial process (e.g. a timer, a setpoint, etc.), thereby allowing the industrial process to be viewed and configured using a single interface.

  • Publication number: 20140121789
Abstract: An advisable state notification framework for an operator interface system is provided. Advisable states represent events detected within an industrial system that are less critical than alarm events but that nevertheless warrant notification. The framework supports multiple classes of advisable states, which are configured and handled separately from alarm states. Each class of advisable state is notified using a unique graphical icon. Moreover, the framework distributes advisable state icons on selected screens throughout the display screen navigational hierarchy to guide the operator to screens that identify the source of the advisable state. The notification and guidance features are inherent to the operator interface development environment, accelerating development time and reducing the need to create a custom notification framework.

  • Patent number: 6381502
Abstract: An industrial control system incorporating a plurality of human/machine interfaces provides for the identification of an operator using the human/machine interface so as to forward output from an ongoing application tool program to the operator as the operator moves about the factory without interruption of the tool program. Location of the human/machine interface may be used to alter the tool program to refer to data relevant to the particular part of the process near the HMI providing for intuitive and efficient use of software type tools by roving operators.
