Publication number: 20250156046Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are disclosed for systems and methods for voice-based device operation mode management. Example methods may include determining that a device is coupled to an accessory device, and determining that being coupled to the accessory device triggers activation of a first operation mode at the device. The first operation mode presents digital content at the display in a user interface having a first content density that is less than a second content density of a second operation mode. Example methods may include causing the device to activate the first operation mode, receiving first voice data indicative of a request to change the device operation mode to the second operation mode, and causing the device to activate the second operation mode.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 22, 2024Publication date: May 15, 2025Applicant: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Kynan Dylan Antos, Jenny Toi Wah Lam, Mark Yoshitake, Ankur Narendra Bhai Vachhani, Blade Imsande McRae, Robert Williams, James Martin Conway, Nedim Fresko, Michael Wendling, Mustafa Husain

Patent number: 11089354Abstract: A system of one or more processors receives information from a computing device associated with a user profile, the information identifying a first list of content items including first episode in a series. The system determines that the first episode has been played using a content state of the first episode. The system determines a second list of content items, including a second episode in the series as an unsolicited content item and removing the first episode from the second list. The system sends the second list to the computing device and the computing device deletes the first episode and downloads the second episode in the series without first receiving a download request from a user or application of the computing device.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2018Date of Patent: August 10, 2021Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Ishwar VenkataManikanda Ramani, Michael Wendling, James Robert Wright

Patent number: 10885910Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are disclosed for systems and methods for voice-forward graphical user interface mode management. Example methods include determining that a device is coupled to an accessory device, determining that being coupled to the accessory device causes the device to deactivate a first operating mode and activate a second operating mode, where the second operating mode has a lower content density than the first operating mode, and determining that an application setting of an application executing on the device is causing the device to remain in the first operating mode. Example methods may include determining that a new value is associated with the application setting, and causing the device to activate the second operating mode.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2018Date of Patent: January 5, 2021Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Kynan Dylan Antos, Jenny Toi Wah Lam, Mark Yoshitake, Ankur Narendra Bhai Vachhani, Blade Imsande McRae, Robert Williams, James Martin Conway, Nedim Fresko, Michael Wendling, Mustafa Husain

Patent number: 10158908Abstract: A processing device sends a first list of content comprising an unsolicited electronic content item to be stored on a first device associated with a user profile. The processing device receives information describing a first state of storage space on the first device. The processing device determines at least one of an amount of total free space or an amount of available free space on a second device associated with the user profile. The processing device then determines a second list of content using the first state of the storage space on the first device and at least one of the amount of total free space or the amount of available free space on the second device and sends the second list to the second device.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2015Date of Patent: December 18, 2018Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Ishwar VenkataManikanda Ramani, Michael Wendling, James Robert Wright

Patent number: 9811261Abstract: A processing device determines configuration data associated with a device. The processing device analyzes the configuration data with respect to storage usage data collected over a previous time period. The processing device determines a maximum amount of storage space of a storage component for the device that is predicted to be written to in a future time period. The processing device determines a free space buffer threshold for a free space buffer of the storage component to be greater than the maximum amount of storage space that is predicted to be written to in the future time period.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2015Date of Patent: November 7, 2017Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Ishwar VenkataManikanda Ramani, Michael Wendling, Mridula Karumuru, James Robert Wright

Patent number: 9747057Abstract: A processing device receives a first notice after a first time period, the first notice indicating that an amount of available free space on a storage component is below a first free space buffer threshold. The processing device determines a first amount of data to delete from an unsolicited content storage area of the storage component. The processing device receives a second notice after a second time period, the second notice indicating that the amount of available free space on the storage component is below the first free space buffer threshold. The processing device then determines a second amount of data to delete from the unsolicited content storage area, where the second amount is larger than the first amount.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2015Date of Patent: August 29, 2017Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Ishwar VenkataManikanda Ramani, Michael Wendling, Mridula Karumuru

Patent number: 9161258Abstract: Systems and methods described herein employ techniques for optimized and selective management of policy deployment/delivery to mobile clients in a congested network to, for example, prevent further aggravation of network congestion. In order to address mobile network congestion it is necessary to be able to enforce network management policies on the devices which are specifically in the congested areas. This presents a challenge as the process of knowing and keeping track of where a device is geographically located within the network actually consumes network resources. There is a tradeoff between the accuracy with which you know a given devices location and the amount of resources required to gain this knowledge. Thus, it is crucial to have a way to determine the location of a device in the network with sufficient accuracy such that congestion management policies can be applied effectively while not unduly taxing the network with additional traffic.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: October 13, 2015Assignee: Seven Networks, LLCInventors: Michael Wendling, Andrii Kokhanovskyi, Ari Backholm, Ross Bott

Publication number: 20150057019Abstract: A method of managing deployment of policies in a mobile network is provided. The method includes sending, by a proxy server, a stability notification including a stability interval for delivery to mobile devices in a mobile network, receiving location notifications initiated by one or more of the mobile devices, wherein each location notification indicates a stable location of a corresponding mobile device initiating the location notification, and processing the location notifications to maintain a congested area list indicating congested areas within the mobile network. A related server is also disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2014Publication date: February 26, 2015Inventors: Michael Wendling, Andrii Kokhanovskyi, Ari Backholm, Ross Bott

Publication number: 20140269279Abstract: Currently, the radio on the device is the only one aware of network congestion while applications are not. At the same time, only the application is aware of the criticality of information it needs to send across the network. In order to address mobile network congestion more effectively, device radio needs to become application aware or application becomes radio aware. This way, the device radio knows the priority of the application traffic and does not blindly block critical information while allowing non critical information to be transferred or the application knows that the network is congested and uses it efficiently. The current congestion management mechanisms have their triggers and corrective actions limited to the device radio level without any regard to application. To address this problem, the disclosed technology includes a solution for congestion management where the trigger is on radio level while corrective measures are at IP/application layer.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 2013Publication date: September 18, 2014Inventors: Mohanad Ismail, Michael Wendling
