  • Patent number: 9726659
Abstract: Provided are methods for identifying or monitoring a subject having, or at risk of developing, impaired glucose homeostasis. Carboxy-4-methyl-5-propyl-2-furanpropanoic acid (CMPF) is shown to be a biomarker for impaired glucose homeostasis and/or conditions characterized by ?-cell dysfunction. Comparing a test level of CMPF in a subject to a control level identifies subjects having, or at risk of developing, impaired glucose homeostasis. Also provided are methods of causing impaired glucose homeostasis or ?-cell dysfunction and methods of screening for compounds that affect the activity of ?-cells. Also provided are methods for the treatment of ?-cell dysfunction by reducing the physiological levels of CMPF in a subject as well as the use of a OAT modulator for the treatment of ?-cell dysfunction.

  • Publication number: 20170175790
Abstract: A method of closing a spatial gap between a first mating surface of a first snap locking feature defined by a first part and a second mating surface of a second snap locking feature defined by a second part. This method includes the steps of attaching the first and second parts to one another by sliding the first and second snap locking features over one another until the first mating surface is proximate the second mating surface and deforming a portion of the first part to fabricate a protrusion that contacts the second part and urges the second part in a direction effective to place the first and second mating surfaces into direct contact with one another.

  • Patent number: 9368910
Abstract: A mechanically assisted electrical connector including a lever and a slider. The slider is coupled to the lever such that movement of the lever moves the slider. The slider defines a slot that is configured to cooperate with a post of a mating connector in a manner effective to urge the electrical connector and the mating connector together when the lever is moved from a first position to a second position. A ramp angle of the slot is varied to reduce a peak value of an applied force to advance the lever from the first position to the second position when connecting the electrical connector to the mating connector.

  • Patent number: 8926344
Abstract: An electrical distribution center assembly having a connector including a plurality of terminals and a terminal stabilizer plate engaging the tips of the terminals to hold the terminals in position and resist bending prior to inserting a mating connector into the electrical distribution center assembly. The terminal stabilizer plate is held in a ready position by a releasable latch means until an axial force applied to the releasable latch means by the mating connector body exceeds a force threshold, whereby the terminal stabilizer plate is released from the ready position and is moved to a seated position. The releasable latch means may include a flexible beam or other resilient member to hold the terminal stabilizer plate in the ready position until it is released.

  • Publication number: 20060233910
Abstract: A clamp is used to secure a heating element to an outside face of a mold. The clamp includes a frame portion which holds a commercially available cartridge heater. The frame portion is sized to mate with the cartridge heater for efficient conduction heating from the cartridge heater. The clamp attaches to the mold via recesses that can be machined into the mold on a three-axis mill, such as cylindrical opening machined in a direction parallel to and slightly intersecting the side face on which attachment occurs. The clamp includes a biasing mechanism for pressing the clamp into heat conducting contact with the outside face of the mold block to which it is attached, for efficient transfer of heat between the cartridge heater and the mold. The preferred biasing mechanism is through a screw lengthening/shortening mechanism, with the clamp attached on two side faces around a corner of the mold block. The biasing force is enhanced by a fulcrum ledge.

  • Publication number: 20040137376
Abstract: A method and system for recording or replicating data in a film media to a metal substrate, such as a nickel substrate. An ultraviolet light source is directed to a sheet of microfiche. The resulting microfiche image is collimated and reduced with an optics system. The reduced image is directed to a wafer of silicon. The silicon wafer is developed, resulting in a mask representative of the documents or data in the film media. A metal seed or base layer is developed on the mask. One or more metal layers are deposited onto the seed layer to form a metal substrate having the film media data or documents formed therein.
