  • Patent number: 6129357
Abstract: The player wagers on one or multiple hands that the player wishes to play. Using a separate deck of standard playing cards for each hand (which may include wild cards or Jokers used as wild cards), three cards are dealt face up to each of the player hands. Using the deck of playing cards that corresponds to that hand, two cards are then dealt--one face up and one face down--to be used as cards that can be selected by the player for use in the player's hand. The player selects either the face up card or the face down card. The selected card is added to the player's hand as the fourth card and is displayed face up. The unselected card is then discarded. Two more cards are dealt, again using the deck of playing cards that corresponds to that hand, one card face up and one card face down. The player again selects either the face up card or the face down card. The selected card is added to the player's hand as the fifth card and is displayed face up with the unselected card being discarded.

  • Patent number: 5816914
Abstract: A method of playing a poker game using a single standard fifty-two card deck of playing cards, five cards are dealt as the dealer's hand with all face cards dealt face up. Three cards are dealt face up as the player's hand. Two cards are then dealt--one face up and one face down--to be used as cards that can be selected by the player for use in the player's hand. The player selects either the face up card or the face down card. The selected card is added to the player's hand and is displayed face up. The unselected card is then discarded and two more cards are dealt--one card face up and one card face down. The player again selects either the face up card or the face down card. Again the selected card is added to the player's hand and is displayed face up with the unselected card being discarded. This results in the player having a complete five card hand. If the player's hand is higher than the dealer's hand based on conventional poker hand rankings, the player wins.

  • Patent number: 5342049
Abstract: A gaming machine combines a random selection feature with a skill feature to allow the player to utilize his ability to manipulate the skill feature to improve his chances of winning on the gaming machine. A reel slot machine is combined with a playing surface using a ball. The reel slot machine is first activated and a combination of slot symbols are randomly selected. The player manipulates a ball about a playing surface and the travel of the ball can result in additional spins of one or more reels of the slot machine so that other winning opportunities can be created. The gaming machine can be operated so that the playing surface is only activated when the player achieves a losing combination on the reel slot machine portion. This allows the player a second chance to win if he can use his skill on the playing surface to respin the reel slots. The player can also win "bonus" amounts as set out on a predetermined schedule of payouts by his skillful manipulation of the ball on the playing surface.

  • Patent number: 4236717
Abstract: A gaming machine of the kind in which a combination of symbols is selected at random by spinning and stopping each of a set of coaxial reels, each reel carrying a plurality of symbols around its periphery and serving to display at least one of these symbols in a display window when stationary, characterized in that the reels are spun by a drive mechanism comprising a lever operated mechanism through which the work done by a player in operating a lever is transferred to the reels so as to spin them, and electrical powered drive means including a motor driven shaft on which the reels are rotatably mounted and to which they are frictionally coupled through individual slipping clutches. Preferably, the lever, when operated by a player, triggers operation of the electrical powered drive means so that the reels are spun by both the lever operated mechanism and the electrical powered drive means.
