  • Patent number: 6015657
Abstract: A photographic element contains at least one photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith a 5-pyrazolone photographic coupler represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein substituents X.sub.1, X.sub.2, Y, G.sub.1, G.sub.2, G.sub.3, Z, and R.sub.1 may be as specified in the specification; a, b, and c are individually integers form 0 to 3 provided that "a" cannot be an integer which, combined with the selection of X.sub.1 and X.sub.2, allows the number of chloride substituents on the ring containing G.sub.1 to exceed 3; and the sum of the Hammett's sigma values for X.sub.1, X.sub.2, Y, G.sub.1, G.sub.2, and G.sub.3 is at least 1.3.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 10, 1994
Date of Patent: January 18, 2000
    Assignee: Eastman Kodak Company
Inventors: Sundram Krishnamurthy, Michael William Crawley, David Scott Bailey, John Lawrence Pawlak
  • Patent number: 5876912
Abstract: Novel non-diffusible pyrazolo-?1,5-a! benzimidazole color couplers having an alkylene-, oxyalkylene- or arylene- thio coupling-off group, substituted with a carboxylic acid or dialkylamino group, have dye-forming and/or bleach-accelerating properties. The couplers are generally associated with a silver halide emulsion layer coated on a support to form a single color or multi-color photographic element.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: March 2, 1999
    Assignee: Eastman Kodak Company
Inventors: Michael William Crawley, Andrew William Gibson, Paul Louis Reginald Stanley, Hugh Martin Williamson
  • Patent number: 5849469
Abstract: The invention provides a novel magenta coupler of the formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are the same or different and are selected from H, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, heteroaryl, alkylthio, carboxylic acid or ester, primary or secondary amido, sulphonamido, mono or disubstituted amino, alkoxy or aryloxy; andX is H or a group capable of being released on oxidative coupling with a colour coupler. These magenta couplers do not have secondary dye absorptions in the blue region of the spectrum which leads to a better colour reproduction and are readily and economically synthesized.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 6, 1997
Date of Patent: December 15, 1998
    Assignee: Eastman Kodak Company
    Inventor: Michael William Crawley
  • Patent number: 5776669
Abstract: The invention provides a pyrazolo?1,5-a!benzimidazole compound of the formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R to R.sup.4 are selected from H, substituted or unsubstituted alkoxy, anilino, aryl, alkyl or amido groups, and X is H or a coupling-off group; characterized in that said compound of Formula I is linked via any of the moieties R to R.sup.4 or X to a compound of the formula (II): ##STR2## wherein W is an electron withdrawing group and L is a linking group. Compounds with the low pKa phenolic substituent provide improved coupling activity when used with a photographic element and improved contrast.
