  • Patent number: 11118080
Abstract: The present invention discloses gas and moisture vapor barrier coating compositions that comprise an amine modified polyvinyl alcohol and an acetoacetate modified polyvinyl. The barrier coatings of the invention exhibit enhanced gas and moisture vapor properties. The barrier coatings of the invention maintain gas and moisture vapor properties even after repeated flexing of a coated substrate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 9, 2017
Date of Patent: September 14, 2021
    Assignee: Sun Chemical Corporation
Inventors: Asad Aslam Khan, Michael William Leonard

  • Patent number: 9459241
Abstract: An ink composition comprising an oxygen sensitive dye capable of fluorescing in a manner proportional to oxygen content; and a polymer matrix for the dye, the polymer matrix having units with pendant sulphonic acid or phosphonic acid groups or salts or esters of such groups, can be used with an appropriate meter to measure the oxygen content of packages in a non-invasive manner.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 18, 2008
Date of Patent: October 4, 2016
    Assignee: Sun Chemical B.V.
Inventors: Sarfaraz Akhtar Khan, Michael William Leonard, Robert Lines
  • Patent number: 8629081
Abstract: By printing a bar code (comprising dark and light regions) or parts of such a bar code with an ink containing a dye, which changes color in the presence of an acid or a base to remove the contrast between the regions of the bar code, and a neutral compound which releases an acid or a base on exposure to energising radiation, a bar code can be produced that becomes unreadable after a pre-determined interval. This can be used as a time/temperature indicator to ensure that products, which might be perishable, associated with such a bar code are not used by the public.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 14, 2006
Date of Patent: January 14, 2014
    Assignee: Sun Chemical Corporation
Inventors: Farid Azizian, Michael William Leonard
  • Patent number: 8268108
Abstract: In order to maintain adequate bond strength of a composite in which a gas barrier coating comprising a clay dispersion and a polymer solution or dispersion of a PVA and/or EVA is positioned between two flexible plastics films using an adhesive, it is necessary that the clay dispersion and the polymer solution or dispersion should be kept separate until shortly before they are to be applied.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 22, 2008
Date of Patent: September 18, 2012
    Assignee: Sun Chemical Limited

  • Publication number: 20100203274
Abstract: A composition having good gas barrier properties can be prepared from a metal silicate, clay and a polymer emulsion, provided that the proportions of these components are maintained such that the silicate comprises at least 70% by weight of the solids in the composition, and the clay and polymer each comprise at least 1% by weight of the total solids in the composition.
