  • Publication number: 20070255772
Abstract: A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer usable program code for deleting rows in a multidimensional clustering database. A multidimensional clustering processor receives a request to delete a set of multidimensionally clustered data. The multidimensional clustering processor determines whether all multidimensionally clustered data is located in a block. Responsive to all multidimensionally clustered data qualifying for deletion, the multidimensional clustering processor deletes all data in the block to delete the set of multidimensionally clustered data.

  • Publication number: 20070219998
Abstract: A method and system for estimating the first access time of a plurality of currently active transactions accessing at least one database object are disclosed. In one aspect, the method may include providing a storage area of a particular size to store data for a plurality of groups corresponding to the at least one database object. Each of the plurality of groups corresponds to a particular time interval. The method includes placing each of the currently active transactions in a group of the plurality of groups based upon a time of a first access of the at least one database object by each of the currently active transactions and the particular time interval. The method also includes storing a group first access time for the group. The group first access time corresponds to the earliest first access time for any of the currently active transactions in the group.

  • Publication number: 20060123003
Abstract: Disclosed are a data processing system implemented method, an article of manufacture and a data processing system for enabling a non-self actuated database transaction to lock onto a database component. The method includes identifying a self actuated transaction currently locking onto the database component, forcing the identified self actuated database transaction to release their lock on the database component if a lock mode between the non-self actuated database transaction and the identified self actuated database transaction is non-compatible, and permitting the non-self actuated database transaction to lock onto the database component if the lock modes between the non-self actuated database transaction and any database transactions currently locking onto the database component are compatible.

  • Publication number: 20060052812
Abstract: A dissecting device and method are provided for preparing a surgical site, such as a desired spinal location, for insertion of an access device. The dissecting device includes a handle that can be gripped by an operator and an extension terminating in a blunt tip. The extension desirably has a length about that of an index finger. When the dissecting device is inserted into an incision, the operator's index finger may extend alongside the extension so that the finger and the dissecting device together may follow a sweeping motion to dissect tissue. The dissecting device may include a convex surface upon which the tip of the index finger rests, and a concave surface with a sharp edge for scraping tissue from bone.

  • Publication number: 20050278393
Abstract: A system and an associated method selectively process log files for enhancing performance of tablespace recovery by processing only those log files required, and for selecting which log file to process during recovery for both redo and rollback phases of recovery. The system and method skip the processing of log files that do not contain records of interest for the tablespace being recovered and determines whether a log file contains anything that needs to be played, in particular for the recovery of a subsystem in the database, such as a tablespace. Pre processing of the log files is not done, rather including tablespace ID correlated with log file ID information is collected while the log files are created. The cross-correlated information is used during tablespace recovery to selectively determine which of the log files to process. Some log files may be skipped in cases where not all of the database system is being recovered.

  • Publication number: 20050234930
Abstract: Implementation of append mode concurrent insert operations in tables in a page-based concurrent relational database management system is carried out by defining a set of last pages as a current cache into which rows may be inserted by appenders. Append mode insert operations for each page in the current cache are serialized. Appenders seek to access the pages in the current cache using a two-pass process in which latches are sought to be acquired conditionally in the first pass and unconditionally in the second pass. A shared data structure is provided to define a current cache and a next cache for a table supporting append mode inserts in the relational database. The shared data structure includes information reflecting the unused space for each page in the current cache.
