  • Publication number: 20180330946
Abstract: Amorphous silicon devices, systems, and related methods are described herein. An example method for fabricating a thin film with light-emitting or light-detecting capability can include depositing a thin film of amorphous silicon on a wafer such that crystalline defects are distributed throughout the thin film. Additionally, an example photonic device can include a p-doped region and an n-doped region formed on a wafer, and a resonator structure formed on the wafer. The resonator structure can be formed from amorphous silicon and can be arranged between the p-doped and n-doped regions to form a PIN junction. • Patent number: 10099105
Abstract: A device and method for regulating a pace of golf play. A golf course is divided into segments, with each segment assigned a time for completion by a user golfer group. Spaced apart signal lights are positioned on the golf course. Each golfer group is provided with a wireless positioning device. A computing device compares an elapsed time for completion of a number of segments with the total assigned time for the number of segments completed. The computing device wirelessly actuates a visual signal to the golfer group by a signal light on the golf course when the elapsed time for completion of the number of segments by the user golfer group is greater than the total assigned time for the number of segments completed. The device and method take into account impediments to pace of play that are outside of the golfer group's control.

  • Publication number: 20180189433
Abstract: Provided are a computer-based method and system of simulating a physical real-world system. Such a method begins by defining, in memory of a processor, a model comprising a plurality of design variables where the defined model represents a real-world physical system and where behavior of the model is given by an equation stored in the memory. The method/system uses the equation to iteratively optimize the defined model with respect to a given one of the plurality of design variables by simultaneously solving for equilibrium of the model and for the design response sensitivity of the given design variable, for the equilibrium, in a given optimization iteration. According to such an embodiment, iteratively optimizing the model results in an improved simulation of the real-world physical system.

  • Publication number: 20180088185
Abstract: A system for calibrating alignment of magnetic and optical sensors in a virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) device. The system can include a controller, a waveform generator, and an electrical driver. The waveform generator can produce calibration waveforms under control of the controller. The system can also include conductive loops which are energized with electrical currents corresponding to the calibration waveforms. The controller can cause the waveform generator to generate a first calibration waveform to calibrate a first type of magnetic sensor in the display device, and to generate a second calibration waveform to calibrate a second type of magnetic sensor in the display device. The system may also include one or more optical fiducial markers in a known spatial relationship with respect to the conductive loops. The optical fiducial markers can be used to calibrate the alignment direction of one or more optical sensors.
