  • Patent number: 8361198
Abstract: A process is described for purifying synthesis gas by means of a pressure swing adsorption unit which is desorbed by a vacuum produced by a so-called ejector, which is driven by steam generated by a heat exchanger which uses the heat in the flue gas duct or in the useful-gas duct for the generation of steam. The pressure swing adsorption unit is operated advantageously in cyclic turns of adsorption under excess pressure, depressurization desorption and vacuum desorption and the gas desorbed by the ejector being cooled in a cooler so that the contained steam can be condensed and discharged or is advantageously returned to the feed gas for the synthesis gas production. The foreign gas desorbed by the pressure swing adsorption unit, which contains at least partly not yet consumed fuel gas, is recycled to the fuel gas. In an advantageous embodiment, the vacuum from the ejector is stored in an intermediate tank and applied to the pressure swing adsorption unit according to the vacuum desorption cycle.

  • Patent number: 6989047
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the absorptive separation of NH3 and CH4 from a gas under high pressure, which at least contains NH3, H2, N2 and CH4, using a high-boiling, physically acting and regenerable solvent which contains homologues of alkylene glycol-alkyl-ether and which also may contain water, the absorbed components NH3, H2, N2 and CH4 being separated from the laden solvent in at least two further process steps at different pressure rates, thereby withdrawing at least one NH3-rich and at least one CH4-rich gas fraction from the solvent. This process is particularly suitable to be incorporated as unit in an ammonia production plant.

  • Publication number: 20050000359
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for removing components from technical gases, said components being scrubbed from the technical gas, the scrubbing agent laden with said components being purified in a separate regeneration process and the scrubbing to remove these components taking place at a temperature of +15° to ?60° C. The scrubbing agent is ethylene glycol dimethyl ether (EGDME) or a mixture of various EGDMEs, said scrubbing agent having a solidification point of <?30° C., a boiling temperature of <275° C. at normal pressure and a molar mass of <230 g/mol.

  • Patent number: 6740258
Abstract: Process and plant for the production of synthesis gas, hydrogen and/or reducing gas by means of a primary reformer heated on the shell side, used in conjunction with a pressure swing adsorption unit for purifying the product gas, the purpose of which is to find a solution to the problem of utilising the work potential of the fuel gas from the pressure swing adsorption unit, which is used to fire the primary gas reformer. This is achieved by supplying the waste desorption gas from the pressure swing adsorption unit to the inlet side of an ejector, which is driven by a part stream of the fuel gas for the primary reformer, the waste desorption gas being admixed to a main fuel gas stream and/or a regulating gas stream, depending on the particular mode of operation.

  • Patent number: 6277345
Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of an absorption liquid for purifying a gas by removal of gaseous, acidic impurities. The gas to be purified can be any gas, such as synthesis gas or natural gas, which contains gaseous, acidic impurities such as CO2, H2S, SO2, CS2, HCN, COS or mercaptans. The absorption liquid comprises: A) from 0.01 to 4% by weight of at least one compound of the formula B) from 0.001 to 8.0% by weight of water, and C) at least one polyalkylene glycol alkyl ether of the formula R1—O—(R2—O)x—R3 to 100% by weight, where R1 is C1-C4-alkyl, R2 is ethylene or 2-methylethylene, R3 is hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl, R4 is hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl, R5 is C1-C4-alkylene and X is an integer from 1 to 10. The amine may be N-methyldiethanolamine and the ether may be polyethylene glycol dimethyl ether.
