  • Patent number: 6031312
Abstract: A squirrel cage rotor includes a cage, lamination sheets provided with a plurality of slots, and short circuit rings arranged at the axial ends of said lamination sheets and connected by short circuit rods disposed within said slots. In one aspect, said lamination sheets comprise sheets made of an amorphous magnetic material, especially of an amorphous metal with high saturation magnetization. In another aspect, said slots are formed with a convex base portion. In a further aspect, said short circuit rings are made of a metal matrix composite material with high electrical conductivity, preferably of a fiber reinforced aluminum matrix composite material.

  • Patent number: 5769047
Abstract: In order to remove oil from the engine, i.e. to evacuate lubricant oil from the crankcase (1), the crankcase and the rotating parts (6, 2, 3) therein are designed so that a centrifugal flow is generated in the crankcase (1) and is used to separate the engine oil from the air that surrounds it. Preferably, only a small gap (8) remains between the outermost partially cylindrical rotating parts, in particular the counterweight (6), and the inner wall of the cylindrical crankcase (1). The oil is removed through an outlet (10) that extends tangentially out of the crankcase (1).

  • Patent number: 5197416
Abstract: An internal combustion engine, especially a radial engine, with a crankcase, a crankshaft, cylinders, connecting rods on the crankshaft, and with pistons attached to the connecting rods and arranged to reciprocate within the cylinders. Each connecting rod is attached with one bearing face on one journal in the crankshaft, has webs on each side of the bearing face, and is attached to the journal by strips that enclose the webs. Each strip enclosing a web on one connecting rod is part of a groove in the journal, whereby space is left, once the connecting rod has been inserted, between the webs and the strips and there is an aperture in the strips for inserting the webs, and hence the connecting rods, large enough to allow insertion of the connecting rods at an angle to their operating states and maintenance therein by the strips that enclose them.

  • Patent number: 4781028
Abstract: A diesel engine, in particular an aircraft engine with an exhaust gas turbocharger, which comprises a compressor and a turbine, wherein for the engine (1) a compressed air starter (20), for the engine (1), is provided whose exhaust air (31, 31') is directed via the turbocharger (4) into the combustion chamber of the engine (1).
