The sub-program step of pre-washing includes supplying water into a washing compartment of the dishwasher to provide a washing liquor, dispensing a predetermined amount of a cleaning agent into the washing liquor, and circulating the washing liquor and applying the washing liquor to items to be washed arranged in the washing compartment, while a heater for heating the washing liquor is inactive during the sub-program step of pre-washing. The sub-program step of pre-cleaning includes heating the washing liquor to a predetermined temperature, and circulating the heated washing liquor and applying the heated washing liquor to the items in the washing compartment.
