    Abstract: A novel reed switch element and method of fabricating the same comprises a ferrous alloy reed which is positioned in a glass envelope. The reed element is characterized by a layer of substantially pure titanium or chromium applied on that portion of the reed element which is in registration with the seal region of the glass envelope. Reed switch elements fabricated in this fashion display substantially improved glass-to-metal seal strength.
