  • Publication number: 20100305416
Abstract: A non-invasive probing device wearable over a skin of a patient for monitoring the patient is provided. The probing device includes a physiological probe having a sensing interface, and a housing for housing the probe. The housing includes a body having a skin-side surface for lying next to the skin of the patient and a fixed or resilient protruding member fixedly or resiliently protruding from the skin-side surface. The protruding member houses the sensing interface. The device also includes attachment means for attaching the device to the skin of the patient. In the case of a resilient protruding member, the device may include a resilient mechanism for biasing the resilient protruding member against the body. Also in the case of a resilient protruding member, the device may include a protective cover for protecting the device against unwanted external influences.

  • Patent number: 7623988
Abstract: A method and apparatus to monitor clinical states, for example hypoglycaemia, hyperglycaemia or an ischemic state, and to detect if a user if affected by such a state. In one embodiment, the method and apparatus use a correlation between one or more non-invasive physical measurements of the body of the subject and a reference value of blood-glucose of the subject to compute an estimation parameter value, and comparing that estimation parameter value with a critical parameter value indicative of the presence of a clinical state, for example hypoglycaemia, hyperglycaemia. In another embodiment, the algorithm estimates chromophore concentrations and the scattering coefficient in order to compute a level of oxygen saturation and detect the presence of an ischemic state.

  • Publication number: 20080228084
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing motion artifact and spurious noise effects when computing estimates of values representative of at least one physiological parameter of a subject. For motion, measured motion values are compared with a motion threshold and the taking of physiological measurements used for computing the physiological parameter estimate values are either suspended until a measured motion value is under the threshold or a correction function is applied to the physiological measurements, the correction function being based on the measured motion values. As for spurious noise, physiological measurements taken while emitters are turned off are subtracted from physiological measurements taken while emitters are turned on in order to eliminate outside noise contamination.

  • Patent number: 7289927
Abstract: A method and apparatus for estimating a body temperature and/or an ambient air temperature and/or blood flow. The method and apparatus acquire values indicative of temperature from two or more sensors. Some of the sensors being in thermal contact with a surface of the body and the other sensors being in thermal contact with the ambient air. A transfer function is then applied to the values from the sensors in order to form an estimate of the body temperature and/or the ambient air temperature and/or blood flow. The transfer function is indicative of a thermal relationship between the body temperature, the values of the sensors, the ambient air temperature and the blood flow.

  • Patent number: 5592284
Abstract: Bi-directional attenuation of an optical fiber is measured using a half duplex Manchester type fiber optic transceiver having receiving circuitry that combines optical power and wavelength meter. A communication protocol insures sequential timings of digital transmission/reception sequences and measures from two transceivers, one at each side of the fiber under test. Measured wavelengths are used to digitally compensate the power level wavelength dependency of the transceivers optical receiving paths. Attenuations from both directions are determined using the compensated measured power levels and digitally transmitted power levels. Fiber optic jumper cables connecting the transceivers to the fiber under test are independently referenced at each side from the single connector of the transceiver.

  • Patent number: 4928431
Abstract: A weather strip for providing a seal between a door opening of a body of a motor vehicle and a door frame, has extruded members and a molded member for connecting ends of the extruded members. Each of the extruded members and the molded member is provided with a base portion, and a tubular sealing portion projecting from the base portion to be pressed by the body of the motor vehicle and the door frame when a door is closed. The tubular sealing portion has a flat board like bridge connecting opposing inner side surfaces of the sealing portion. The bridge extends so as to cross a connection boundary between each of the extruded members, and the molded member in a direction perpendicular to the connection boundary. When the sealing portion is pressed by the body and the door frame, the connection boundary is backed up by the bridge so that an abrupt change in deformed state on both sides of the connection boundary can be reduced or moderated.
