Patent number: 8608475Abstract: A motion simulator for transmitting motion with respect to a floor as a function of motion signals associated to a video output. The motion simulator comprises a seating portion for accommodating a viewer viewing the video output. Actuators each have a housing and an output shaft interrelated by a degree of freedom. Each of the actuators has a motor connected to the seating portion for displacing the housing with respect to the output shaft along the degree of freedom as a function of actuation from the actuators in relation to the motion signals. The housing of each of the actuators is secured to the seating portion. The output shaft of each of the actuators comprises a leg supporting the motion simulator on the floor, whereby the seating portion is movable as a function of actuation from the actuators.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2004Date of Patent: December 17, 2013Assignee: D-Box Technologies Inc.Inventors: Philippe Roy, Michel Bérubé

Patent number: 8454366Abstract: An actuated support frame for transmitting motion to a seat with respect to a ground as a function of motion signals associated with video output, comprises a frame. The frame is expandable/retractable along translational degrees of freedom. Support surfaces are provided on the frame. The support surfaces are displaceable with respect to one another by expansion/retraction of the frame so as to be sized to support a seat. Actuators are provided between the frame and the ground. The actuators receive signals and selectively displace the frame with respect to the ground in synchronization with a video output, whereby a seat supported on the frame is displaceable within the frame. A method for installing a seating system of a motion simulator system is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2005Date of Patent: June 4, 2013Assignee: D-Box Technologies Inc.Inventors: Gauthier Orban, Michel Bérubé, Philippe Roy

Publication number: 20120221148Abstract: The present document describes a system and method for controlling the movements of a motion platform in real-time based on the movements of a remote subject. For example, the user of the motion platform may experience movements/vibrations that correspond to the movements of a motorcycle in a live racing event. The system comprises a motion capture system which determines the movement of the remote subject. The output of the motion capture system is used by an encoder to generate motion signals which cause the motion platform to produce movements which correspond to the movements of the remote subject. The motion signals are sent to the motion platform over a communication link. In an embodiment, the remote subject is provided with one or more motion sensors which communicate with the motion capture system over another communication link.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2011Publication date: August 30, 2012Applicant: D-Box Technologies inc.Inventors: Jean-Francois MÉNARD, Sylvain Trottier, Michel Bérubé, Philippe Roy

Publication number: 20040229192Abstract: A motion simulator for transmitting motion with respect to a floor as a function of motion signals associated to a video output. The motion simulator comprises a seating portion for accommodating a viewer viewing the video output. Actuators each have a first member and a second member interrelated by a degree of freedom. Each of the actuators has a degree of actuation connected to the seating portion for displacing the first member with respect to the second member along the degree of freedom as a function of actuation from the actuators in relation to the motion signals. The first member of each of the actuators is secured to the seating portion The second member of each of the actuators comprises a leg supporting the motion simulator on the floor, whereby the seating portion is movable as a function of actuation from the actuators.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 13, 2004Publication date: November 18, 2004Inventors: Philippe Roy, Michel Berube

Patent number: 6662560Abstract: The system produces movements in a home entertainment chair. It has a motor controller and a plurality of movement generator units for generating small amplitude and low frequency movements in the viewer's chair. The system is intended for home use and can be easily installed under each leg of a chair or of a sofa or at the corners of a platform. The source of movement control signals can be derived from a video presentation soundtrack, and directional movement sensations can be created by inducing controlled movements in each leg of the viewer's chair.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2001Date of Patent: December 16, 2003Assignee: D-Box Technology Inc.Inventors: Philippe Roy, Michel Bérubé, Michel Jacques

Patent number: 5980854Abstract: The present invention is concerned with a method for the extraction of magnesium from magnesium-containing materials such as magnesite, dolomite and silicates materials like serpentine residues, products from the amphibole or pyroxene group. The magnesium-containing material is first leached in at least one leaching reactor, and subsequently submitted to a series of neutralizing steps in separate reactors under controlled pH and oxydo-reduction potentials. The slurry produced is filtered to produce a substantially pure magnesium chloride solution containing less than 1 ppm of each contaminant present therein.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1998Date of Patent: November 9, 1999Assignee: Noranda, Inc.Inventors: Carl White, Michel Berube
