  • Patent number: 5181732
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a bicycle fork comprising a steel steering spigot 11, a fork head 12 of fibre reinforced plastic, two fork arms 13 which likewise consist of fibre reinforced plastic and which are formed in one piece with the fork head 12 and axle mounts 14 inserted into the free ends of the fork arms 13 is characterized in that connection spigots provided on the axle mounts 14 are extended by a hard foam core 19; in that the hard foam core 19 is extended in the region of the fork head 12 by a plastic impregnated flexible foam core 22; in that a plastic impregnated flexible foam sheath 20 is laid around the connection spigots 21, around the hard foam core 19 and around the flexible foam core 22; in that subsequently various fibre reinforced sleeves 15, 16, 17, 18 are laid around the foam sleeve 20; in that then the upper parts of the fork head 12 containing the foam cores 22 are combined together into a single steering spigot connection parts 12a and are introduced, at least substantially into the lo

  • Patent number: 5039470
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a bicycle fork including forming a manufactured blank comprising a metallic steering spigot 11, two fork arms 13 and a pair of metallic axle mounts 14. Each fork arm 13 includes a hard foam core 19 at the lower straight portion of each fork arm 13 and a flexible foam core 22 at the upper end of each fork arm 13. Alternatively, a single flexible foam core having an internal pressurization may be advantageously used. The axle mounts 14 have a connection spigot 21 which is inserted into the free ends of each fork arm 13. A polymer impregnated flexible foam sheath 20 is laid around foam core 19, flexible foam core 22 or 37 and connection spigots 21. Subsequently, various polymer impregnated fiber reinforced sleeves 15, 16, 17, 18 are laid around the foam sleeve 20. The upper parts of the fork arms 13 are brought together to form a fork head 12 having a single steering spigot connection part 12a and fork arm transition parts 12b.

  • Patent number: 4893420
Abstract: A pedal plate (13) for a cycle safety pedal (26) is releasably attached to the sole (12) of a cyclist's shoe in the ball region and has a running surface which extends parallel to the attachment region on the sole. The attachment region (11) of the sole (12) is arranged recessed by the thickness of the pedal plate (13) relative to the base surface of the sole (36) around the attachment region (11), so that the bottom of the pedal plate lies substantially flush with the bottom of the sole.

  • Patent number: 4811626
Abstract: A bicycle pedal crank is formed by three separate interassembled elements, namely a crank arm and two end-pieces. The crank arm consists of an element of composite material formed by overmolding of a synthetic resin on a tubular core of reinforcement fibers such as carbon fibers or aramide fibers. The end-pieces are manufactured separately and form respectively the crank hub and an end-piece for receiving the corresponding pedal spindle. The two end-pieces each have a tenon which is forcibly engaged and fixed within the corresponding end of the tubular element which forms the crank arm.

  • Patent number: 4793208
Abstract: This crank-gear includes cranks centered on a first axis and respectively mounted on shafts journalled into one another in the bicycle crank-gear case. Each shaft bears a guide cooperating with sliders which are fixed to rotate with the sprocket plates actuating the chain with an orbital movement around a second axis. In view of the offset between the first and second axes and the relative arrangement of the cranks and guides the cranks are aligned with one another only when horizontal. Furthermore, when one of the cranks is at bottom dead center the other crank is forwardly offset by a certain distance relative to top dead center. An improved pedalling efficiency is thereby obtained.

  • Patent number: 4680921
Abstract: A safety stirrup detachably connected to the stirrup-leather in order to release the rider's foot in the event of a fall comprises a coupling device having two jaws for clamping the top portion of the stirrup head. A forward pivotal displacement of the stirrup with respect to the stirrup-leather causes rotation of a cam provided at the upper end of the stirrup head. The two jaws are opened-out by a top wedge of the cam through an angle of approximately 30.degree. to 45.degree. while a bottom wedge of the cam increases the separation of the jaws, thus releasing the stirrup.
