Abstract: A method of data transmission over an internal bus of a workstation, effecting communication of an interface coupler and a telephone line and devices adapted for various communication functions. The method employs the synchronization signal of a voice network to define 125-microsecond communication frames. Included in each 125-microsecond frame thus defined are a maximum of eight variable-length subframes corresponding to a maximum of eight devices. The first two bytes of each subframe are header bytes. Coded in the header bytes of each subframe are a device destination address, and length codes indicating the number of bytes of data included in the subframe and the number of active bits in the last byte.

Abstract: Mono, di and tri-esters of 1,8-dihydroxy-10-phenyl-9-anthrone or -9-anthranol have the formula ##STR1## wherein p is 0 or 1,(a) when p=0, t=1 and R.sub.2 represents hydrogen or --COR.sub.3,(b) when p=1, t=0 and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each independently represent hydrogen or --COR.sub.3,R.sub.3 represents linear or branched alkyl having 1-17 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl, phenyl or phenyl substituted by lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halogen, a nitro function, --CF.sub.3 or a hydroxyl function, and mixtures of said esters. These esters are prepared by reacting 1,8-dihydroxy-10-phenyl-9-anthrone with an activated form of an acid. The esters are useful in human or veterinary medicine and in cosmetic compositions.

Abstract: A process for preparing a 4,5-tri or tetramethylene-4-isothiazoline-3-one comprises cyclizing a 2-alkyl or aralkyl thio-1-cycloalkene-1-carboxamide in the form of its sulfoxide in an organic solvent in the presence of a acid chloride and adding to the resulting 4,5-tri or tetramethylene-4-isothiazoline-3-one hydrochloride a mineral or organic base or water so as to free the 4,5-tri or tetramethylene-4-isothiazoline-3-one in the form of a free base.

Abstract: Mono, di and tri-esters of 1,8-dihydroxy-10-phenyl-9-anthrone or -9-anthranol have the formula ##STR1## wherein p is 0 or 1,(a) when p=0, t=1 and R.sub.2 represents hydrogen or --COR.sub.3,(b) when p=1, t=0 and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each independently represent hydrogen or --COR.sub.3,R.sub.3 represents linear or branched alkyl having 1-17 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl, phenyl or phenyl substituted by lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halogen, a nitro function, --CF.sub.3 or a hydroxyl function, and mixtures of said esters. These esters are prepared by reacting 1,8-dihydroxy-10-phenyl-9-anthrone with an activated form of an acid. The esters are useful in human or veterinary medicine and in cosmetic compositions.

Abstract: The invention provides compounds of formula ##STR1## in which formula R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are identical or different and denote:(1) taken separately: a hydrogen atom, a linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl radical, an unsubstituted phenyl radical or a phenyl radical substituted with a halogen atom, with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy radical or with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy radical;(2) taken together either(a) a polymethylene linkage; or(b) a benzene ring; or(c) a cyclic linkage containing a nitrogen atom to constitute an isothiazolopyridinone derivative; m being able to have the values 0 or 1;the group A in the formula (IV) denoting the group ##STR2## where R.sub.8 corresponds to a hydrogen atom, a methyl radical, a hydroxymethyl radical or a --CH.sub.2 O--CO--Ret group. The invention also provides a process for preparing the abovementioned compounds and also drug compositions and cosmetic compositions containing them.

Abstract: An improved flame photometry detector to give direct quantitative detection of molecules containing sulfur by:-- the total combustion of the mixture to be analyzed so as to transform the sulfur into sulfur oxide (primarily SO.sub.2);-- the linearization, by an electronic device, of the signal supplied by the electrometer, in series with the photomultiplier of the detector, prior to recording (this results in the proportionality of the recording to the number of sulfur-containing molecules detected); and preferably the provision of a leakage flow beyond the burner and in front of the detection so as to avoid saturation of the detector.These improvements can be applied to the analysis of a hydrocarbon mixture and of sulfur compounds which have been previously eluted on a chromatographic column.

Abstract: A method for improving the appearance of the greasy skin of the face of a person having a skin so characterized, which comprises topically applying to the skin of the face an effective amount of a composition containing as an active ingredient a cis or trans 3,4-thiolannediol, its cis or trans S-oxide derivatives or its cis or trans S-dioxide derivatives.

Abstract: A composition and method for treating the hair and skin characterized by a greasy, unaesthetic appearance to reduce or essentially eliminate this greasy appearance which includes topically applying to a human having hair or skin so characterized a cosmetic composition containing as an active ingredient a cis or trans 3,4-thiolannediol, its cis or trans S-oxide derivatives or its cis or trans S-dioxide derivatives.
