  • Patent number: 5659900
Abstract: A bicycle helmet is disclosed having a flexible, articulated member depending from the rear of the helmet, providing a closer fit to an individual wearer's head and improving stability of the helmet on the head, particularly for mountain bike riding. The articulated member contacts the wearer's head beneath the occipital region and applies a forward and upward pressure against the head. The general embodiment of the invention includes an elastic strap stretching from one side of the helmet, across the back of the articulated member, to the opposite side of the helmet. Adjusting this strap allows the wearer to adjust the forward and upward pressure exerted by the articulated member on the wearer's head.

  • Patent number: 5380020
Abstract: An in-line skate includes a boot lower and a frame intricately formed through monocoque construction. The boot lower and frame are formed from a material having a predetermined stiffness. A boot upper is secured to the boot lower. The boot upper includes a material selected to have a stiffness less than the stiffness of said boot lower.

  • Patent number: 5331752
Abstract: A skating vehicle has a frame with a blade or rollers mounted thereon and a boot for mounting a detachable shoe in a locked position thereon. The boot includes a rigid wall which encircles the sole of the shoe cradled within, and a rearward projection in the toe portion which enters a slot in the shoe sole when the shoe is inserted and moved forward, locking the shoe in the boot. A rear semirigid cuff is lined with a padding whose lower edge is proximate with and communicates with the upper edge of the shoe during skating. The cuff is closed with an adjustable latch which comprises the single device required to mount and dismount the shoe. The multi-use shoe includes a semirigid outer heel attached to the sole extremity and a semirigid outer tongue overlying the shoe upper.

  • Patent number: 4896547
Abstract: Disclosed is a walk-in inspection apparatus for active production of air samples containing vapors of explosives, drugs, or other substances carried by a person. The apparatus includes a U-shaped booth with an open end through which a person walks past walls which may contain a metal detector, then stands in front of a mesh screen facing a vertical end wall containing a vertical array of shaped funnels. Light-transmissive wall sections near the end wall help encourage entry of the person into the booth, and the light colored mesh screen draws attention of a person in the booth away from the darker funnels. In the collection of an air sample a blower outside the booth sucks a large volume of air around the person and horizontally through the funnels in the end wall and through ducts into a collection manifold for subsequent analysis.

  • Patent number: 4836343
Abstract: Apparatus for temporarily attaching one object to another object which includes a channel on one object, a form on the other object which may be slidably inserted into the channel, a flap on one object, and means for engaging the flap on the other object. The objects are connected to each other by sliding the form into the channel and then engaging the flap with the engagement means. When engaged, the flap prevents sliding motion, and thereby ensures that the form does not slide out of the channel.

  • Patent number: 4749364
Abstract: Apparatus for removably attaching display apparatus such as an LCD screen to electrical apparatus. The attachment apparatus provides for electrical and mechanical attachment and detachment of the display apparatus in a single operation. When the display apparatus is detached, the attachment apparatus also provides for attachment of different display apparatus to the electrical apparatus. The attachment apparatus consists of a socket including a male electrical connector and a plug including a female electrical connector. When the plug is inserted into the socket, the male and female electrical connectors are connected, thereby providing power and signals to the display apparatus. The plug is held in the socket by means of a lever-actuated friction mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4720625
Abstract: Attachment apparatus for attaching a first object to a second object. The first object has a groove with parallel sides; the second object has attached thereto a spline with a flexible blade. When the spline is inserted in the groove, the blade exerts a force against one wall of the groove which forces the spline against the other wall, thereby retaining the spline in the groove. Also disclosed is label attachment apparatus employed generally to removably attach a label to a surface and specifically to removably attach a function key strip to a keyboard. The surface has a groove and the label has means which frictionally engage the groove. A preferred embodiment of the label attachment apparatus employs the groove, spline, and flexible blade as described above.

  • Patent number: 4684185
Abstract: Apparatus for removably attaching a cable to a point on another piece of apparatus. The apparatus consists of means such as a jack for attaching an end of the cable to the piece of apparatus and a clip at another point on the piece of apparatus which may be employed at the option of the user of the piece of apparatus to retain an intermediate point of the cable. The cable may be inserted in and removed from the clip without use of tools. The attaching apparatus is employed in devices such as keyboards for the cables which attach the keyboard to the rest of the system and auxiliary input devices to the keyboard. In a preferred embodiment, the clip consists of a short channel in the case of the keyboard which will accept a number of cables having different sizes and a flexible snap which retains the cables in the channel.
