Patent number: 10532530Abstract: A device, which converts a reinforcing strip from being flat to being undulating, includes a transporter that guides fingers along a closed circuit, with the fingers being able to bear against a first face of the strip; a support plate that rotates about a plate axis and that supports rollers having axes parallel to the plate axis, with the rollers being able to bear against a second face of the strip; and a synchronizer that synchronizes a rotation of the support plate and a forward motion of the transporter. The closed circuit has an intersecting portion at which the synchronizer allows the fingers and the rollers to move rotationally in a common plane perpendicular to the plate axis, with the fingers and the rollers being interposed at the intersecting portion so as to cause the strip to have undulating waves that extend in the common plane.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 2015Date of Patent: January 14, 2020Assignee: Compagnie Generale des Etablissements MichelinInventors: Christian Beaudonnet, Michel Deboeuf, Philippe Bournerie

Patent number: 10081147Abstract: The method includes the step of running a cutting means between two threads of the reinforcing ply. The method proceeds with the steps of measuring; a discrepancy between an actual cutting line (A?B?C?) and a theoretical cutting line (ABC) is measured and determining a point of intersection of the actual cutting line (B?) with a reference longitudinal line (XX?) placed on the strip. The actual cutting line (B?C?) of that part of the rubber profiled elements that are not superposed with the reinforcing ply is longitudinally offset (Z) with respect to the theoretical cutting line (BC) so that the actual cutting line (B?C?) meets the reference longitudinal line (XX?) at the point of intersection (B?) of the reinforcing ply (A?B?) with the reference longitudinal line (XX?). The rubber profiled elements that are not superposed with the reinforcing ply are cut along the said actual cutting line.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2013Date of Patent: September 25, 2018Assignees: Compagnie Generale Des Etablissements Michelin, Michelin Recherche Et Technique, S.A.Inventors: Michel Deboeuf, Clement Dubois, Thierry Ducros, Stephane Ravat

Patent number: 9701079Abstract: A cutting blade, which is useable for cutting a reinforcing strip into reinforcing plies, includes one or more notches disposed at given intervals. When a volume of rubber separating two reinforcing threads is cut by the cutting blade, bridges of rubber are left between a rear edge of a first reinforcing ply and a front edge of a second reinforcing ply.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2012Date of Patent: July 11, 2017Assignees: COMPAGNIE GENERALE DES ETABLISSEMENTS MICHELIN, MICHELIN RECHERCHE ET TECHNIQUE S.A.Inventors: Thierry Ducros, Stéphane Ravat, Michel Deboeuf

Publication number: 20170157873Abstract: A method for manufacturing a tire involves successively performing steps that include: continuously converting a flat reinforcing strip into an undulating reinforcing strip; pressing peaks of waves of the undulating reinforcing strip one by one onto a surface of a tire blank that is driven in rotation by a drum about a drum axis; and winding the undulating reinforcing strip onto the tire blank. In the converting step, the flat reinforcing strip is converted into the undulating reinforcing strip in an immediate vicinity of the drum. The waves of the undulating reinforcing strip and movement of the peaks of the waves of the undulating reinforcing strip towards the surface of the tire blank extend in a plane substantially perpendicular to the drum axis.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 29, 2015Publication date: June 8, 2017Applicant: COMPAGNIE GENERALE DES ETABLISSEMENTS MICHELINInventors: HENRI HINC, MICHEL DRUET, MICHEL DEBOEUF, NICOLAS JAUNET, JEAN-MARIE DETTORRE

Publication number: 20070289694Abstract: During manufacture of a tire, a carcass reinforcement ply is wound on a cylindrical laying surface on which have been deposited a pair of profiled elements spaced apart along the cylinder axis. The reinforcement ply is fed onto the laying surface while being pressed thereagainst by an application roller which is deformable so as to conform to both the cylinder diameter and the larger radii defined by the profiled elements. Additional rollers can be positioned upstream of the application roller for pressing the ply against respective ones of the profiled elements. A transporter supports one or both the end portions of the ply as they leave a feeder conveyor and approach the laying surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 18, 2007Publication date: December 20, 2007Applicant: MICHELIN RECHERCHE ET TECHNIQUE S.A.Inventors: Daniel Macheffe, Michel Deboeuf
