  • Patent number: 7862304
Abstract: A single stage high pressure turbine blade includes an airfoil having a profile substantially in accordance with at least an intermediate portion of the Cartesian coordinate values of X, Y and Z set forth in Table 2. The X and Y values are distances, which when smoothly connected by an appropriate continuing curve, define airfoil profile sections at each distance Z. The profile sections at each distance Z are joined smoothly to one another to form a complete airfoil shape.

  • Patent number: 7478486
Abstract: System and method for controlling an appliance for drying clothing articles is provided. The appliance has a container for receiving the clothing articles. A motor is provided for rotating the container about an axis. A heater is provided for supplying heated air to the container during a dry cycle. A sensor is provided for providing a signal indicative of moisture content of the articles. Memory is provided memory for storing historical stop time data of respective dry cycles. A noise-reduction filter is coupled to receive the signal from the moisture sensor to provide selectable filtering to that signal. A timer provides a signal indicative of elapsed time upon start of the dry cycle. A module is responsive to the historical data in the memory for determining an initial estimate of the stop time of the dry cycle to be executed. A processor allows for estimating the stop time of the dry cycle as the cycle is being executed.

  • Publication number: 20050263259
Abstract: Thermomechanical pulp is an important process for producing fibrous mass used in papermaking. A two-level control strategy that stabilizes and optimizes the refining process has been developed. The Stabilization layer consists of a multivariable model predicative range controller that regulates the refiner line operations. The Quality Optimization layer provides the pulp quality control as measured by an online pulp quality (freeness, fibre length) sensor. This control startegy leverages the natural decoupling in the process. The modular design technique is able to handle multiple refiner lines that empty into a common latency chest. A global optimizer is also used to integrate and coordinate the two layers for enhanced constraint handling.

  • Publication number: 20050070076
Abstract: This invention provides a method of depositing high-quality Si or SiGe epitaxial layers on SiGe substrates. By first depositing a thin Si seed layer on the SiGe substrate, the quality of the seed layer and of the subsequently deposited layers is greatly improved over what is obtained from depositing SiGe directly onto the SiGe substrate. Indeed, whereas the RMS surface roughness of the deposition of SiGe directly on SiGe, as measured by atomic-force microscopy (AFM), was 3-4 nm, it was more than an order of magnitude better when a thin Si seed layer was employed. This work was performed on an ultra-high-vacuum chemical vapor deposition (UHV/CVD) system; however, the same method would apply to other deposition systems such as atmospheric-pressure, low-pressure and rapid-thermal CVD.

  • Patent number: 5408110
Abstract: Quasi-phase matched (QPM) second-harmonic (SH) generation in the reflection geometry is described. The SH intensity can be strongly enhanced by spatially modulating the optical properties of the nonlinear medium. This type of quasi-phase matching is demonstrated using an Al.sub.0.8 Ga.sub.0.2 As/GaAs heterostructure designed for .lambda.=1.06 .mu.m incident light. The SH light intensity generated in reflection from the heterostructure is enhanced 70 times relative to the SH response of a homogeneous GaAs wafer. A Fabry-Perot resonant cavity design employs this structure to make thin films with extremely high SH generation efficiencies. This is of particular interest used in vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs).

  • Patent number: 4779540
Abstract: An accessory table adapted for detachable attachment to an article of furniture, such as a desk, is disclosed. The accessory table comprises a rigid floor supported post and an attachment assembly for the post, exerting vise action on the top and bottom surfaces of the desk. The post carries at least one table at the outer end of an arm, the latter being pivotable through a full circle. The table is also rotatable about its central vertical axis at the end of the arm. The post is hidden by an aesthetic sheath.
