  • Patent number: 9588759
Abstract: Supplemental functionalities may be provided for an executable program via an ontology instance. In some embodiments, a computer program (e.g., an executable program or other computer program) associated with an ontology may be caused to be run. The ontology may include information indicating attributes for a set of applications. An instance of the ontology may be obtained, which may correspond to an application of the set of applications. Based on the ontology instance, supplemental information may be generated for the computer program. The supplemental information may be related to one or more functionalities of the application to be added to the executable program. The supplemental information may be provided as input to the computer program. The supplemental information, at least in part, may cause the one or more functionalities of the application to be made available via the executable program.

  • Patent number: 5675647
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of distributing signals to valid subscribers comprised of storing subscriber terminal valid identification codes at a central station, broadcasting promotions of services available to subscribers, each associated with a specific promotion code, selecting one of the services and entering a selected service promotion code into a terminal at a subscriber location, automatically reading an identification number associated with the terminal in response to the entering of a selected promotion code, processing the identification number and the selected promotion code in accordance with an encryption algorithm, and generating an encrypted event request code therefrom, providing the event request code to a verification center, at the verification center, decrypting the event request code, verifying the number against the valid identification codes, and providing a password unique to the terminal and the selected promotion code, entering the password into the terminal at the subscribe

  • Patent number: 5524001
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of data assembly for distribution of the data via a mass audience distribution system, comprised of storing in a random access memory packets of data which are to be transmitted to the audience, storing in a first address table a sequence of memory addresses of the data for transmission of the data in the sequence, progressively reading the first table to retrieve the addresses of those packets of data that are to be transmitted to the audience in the sequence, reading the memory to retrieve the packets of data in the sequence, and transmitting the read packets to the audience in real time.

  • Patent number: 5497185
Abstract: A method and apparatus of collecting data from a television audience comprising storing in a first memory demographic descriptions of expected viewers of a television receiver, receiving signals from a viewer control operated by a viewer, displaying one or more indicia on a television screen for viewing by the viewer, designated by the character of the signals received from the control, in confirmation of the particular signal received from the control, and storing a signal in a second memory for later access corresponding to at least one form of the designated signal character, which is related to the designation of at least one selected expected viewer as an active viewer. The television viewer may use his remote control at any time, when the flashing prompt is flashing, or when it is not flashing, to change channels. There is no channel lock nor is there an annoying on-screen prompt enquiring as to the identity of persons in the viewing audience.

  • Patent number: 5126840
Abstract: A two-way CATV network which in the preferred embodiment uses gating upstream narrowband filters in the distribution lines and/or trunks to substantially reduce upstream noise gathering. The filters sense the upstream signal energy and open in the event the energy exceeds a predetermined threshold.

  • Patent number: 4920533
Abstract: A bidirectional cable communication system comprising a head and, a bidirectional transmission network connected to the head end for transmitting signals downstream from the head end to a plurality of subscriber stations and for transmitting data signals upstream to the head end from the subscriber stations, means at the head end for detecting collisions between signals received from the subscriber stations and for generating a collision signal, means at the head end for transmitting downstream on the transmission system status bits of data signal indicative of the collision, whereby upon detection thereof by a subscriber station it can be enabled to cease transmission.

  • Patent number: 4623920
Abstract: A system for providing television, information and data signals via a transmission network to selected subscribers, to groups of subscribers, or to all subscribers connected in common to the transmission network. An address code signal is stored at the subscriber station, and an option code signal is sent to the particular subscriber station from a head end of the network. Signals having an address portion designative of the option code or address code signal are sent down the transmission line and are translated by the subscriber station in the event the address matches the first and second code signal. Thus signals can be sent to all subscribers which have option codes designated by the address of data packets transmitted down the transmission line. These groups of subscribers can be all subscribers, individual smaller groups of subscribers, or a group consisting of even a single subscriber. The option codes can be changed from the head end at will.
