  • Patent number: 11583947
Abstract: The present method for machining a part includes wire electro-discharge machining the part to create a recast layer, and then removing a zinc content of the recast layer without substantially altering the remainder of the initial composition make-up of the recast layer. The final composition make-up of the recast layer is substantially identical to the initial composition make-up except for the removed zinc content.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 19, 2018
Date of Patent: February 21, 2023
Assignee: PRATT & WHITNEY CANADA CORP.
Inventors: Nihad Ben Salah, Alain Bouthillier, Michel Frederick, Jean Fournier
  • Patent number: 11579582
Abstract: A tool for validating a wire-electric-discharge-machining (wEDM) operation to be performed using a wEDM machine comprises a body including an engagement feature shaped to removably hold a validation coupon to be machined in the wEDM operation, the validation coupon sized larger than a size of a cut-out to be made in a part using the wEDM machine. A method of manufacturing the tool and a wEDM machine assembly are also provided.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 27, 2019
Date of Patent: February 14, 2023
Assignee: PRATT & WHITNEY CANADA CORP.
Inventors: Visal Ing, Michel Frederick, Ghislain Hardy
  • Patent number: 11235403
Abstract: An electrical discharge machining (EDM) electrodes and associated methods are provided. An EDM electrode includes a holder rotatable about a rotation axis and a plurality of electrode elements attached to the holder and circumferentially arranged around the rotation axis. Respective positions of the electrode elements are radially adjustable relative to the rotation axis.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 10189100
Abstract: A method for machining a part includes wire electro-discharge machining the part, and then selectively reducing a zinc content of the residual recast layer left on a surface of the part, while otherwise leaving the recast layer substantially intact.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20180112542
Abstract: A rotor for a gas turbine engine is described and includes a disc and a plurality of blades. The disc has opposite first and second end surfaces spaced apart by a peripheral surface circumferentially extending about the rotor, and a plurality of slots defined in the peripheral surface and each having a length extending between a first slot opening in the first end surface and a second slot opening in the second end surface. Each of the slots has a tapered shape with at least one dimension of a cross-sectional shape of the slot reducing along at least a portion of the length of the slot. The at least one dimension at the first slot opening is greater than the at least one dimension at the second slot opening. The blades having a complimentary root are received in the slots of the rotor.
