Abstract: An airbag assembly for a vehicle according to various implementations includes an inflator and an airbag cushion. In some implementations, the airbag assembly also includes a housing. The inflator and the airbag cushion are stored in the housing when the airbag is in a non-deployed state. During a vehicle accident, the airbag cushion extends out of the housing to cushion movement of a vehicle occupant. The airbag cushion includes a main panel having a first edge and a second edge, a first side panel coupled to the first edge, and a second side panel coupled to the second edge. The first side panel and the second side panel comprise protrusions and a channel is defined by a portion of the main panel between the protrusions. In some implementations, the airbag assembly includes a second inflator.

Abstract: An articulated seat cushion component for the seat of a vehicle may include a seat cushion component, wherein the seat cushion component is arranged to detach from a seat cushion of the seat and to be positioned between an occupant of the seat and an intruding body structure. The seat cushion component may be arranged to be integral with the seat cushion of a vehicle seat during when the seat cushion component is in an undeployed state. The seat cushion component may be arranged so that when the seat cushion component is deployed the seat cushion component detaches from the seat cushion of the seat of a vehicle and is positioned to protect a vehicle occupant during a side crash.

Abstract: An inflatable curtain gas delivery tube that provides energy absorption and a curtain system that uses the gas delivery tube. The energy-absorbing inflatable curtain gas delivery tube may include an inner tube and an outer tube. The inner tube may be positioned within the outer tube so that the outer tube may provide structural support to the inner tube. The inner tube and outer tube may be composed of materials and structures to provide an energy-absorbing design for reducing the force that a vehicle occupant is subjected to during a head impact to the gas delivery tube.

Abstract: A thread for sewing occupant protection devices includes a spun thread and a thermoplastic elastomer coating. The thread can be used to form a sewn seam joining two fabric panels together to create an airbag. The seam can create needle holes in the two fabric panels. The seam can be heated after assembly of the airbag, such that the thermoplastic elastomer coating displaces off of the spun thread and fills in any needle holes.
