  • Patent number: 5911760
Abstract: The product for covering a prosthesis (1) includes calcium carbonate (CaCO.sub.3), preferably in the form of calcite and smaller amounts of aragonite, and lime, mainly quick lime (CaO). The product is the result of thermal transformation of a substance containing calcite and/or argonite and/or quick lime or hydrated lime. The thermal transformation is carried out by thermal sputtering using a plasma torch in which the substance is injected in powder form into a plasma jet.

  • Patent number: 5743912
Abstract: A longitudinal revascularization conduit is formed in the body of an implant. It is blind at the distal end of the body to be implanted in one bone fragment, such as the trochanter, and open via transverse orifices and at the proximal end of the body to be implanted in another bone fragment, such as the femoral head. At least one self-tapping section situated at the distal end of the body immobilizes the body in the bone, or an anchor end-piece is slidably mounted on the body and contains a damping device adapted to push the end-piece in the proximal direction and the body in the distal direction in order to maintain the fracture in compression. The distal end of the body may be mounted in a cylindrical portion of a plate secured on the diaphysis of the femur.

  • Patent number: 5554191
Abstract: An intersomatic cage to be inserted from the posterior approach between two vertebrae comprises two substantially parallel branches for contact with the vertebral bodies, a linking portion linking the posterior ends of the branches, and a movable spreader member for angularly spreading the two branches after insertion of the cage between the two vertebrae. The cage allows adjustment of the lordosis angle between the two vertebrae during surgery. Ancillary equipment for insertion of the cage includes a rasp for forming a housing for the cage between the two vertebrae, a cage-holder for inserting the cage into the housing, a screwdriver for turning a screw screwed into the spreader member to spread the two branches of the cage, and a guide for successively guiding the rasp, the cage-holder with the cage, and subsequently the screwdriver.

  • Patent number: 5380325
Abstract: A consolidation rod and plural members, such as pedicular screws and vertebral claws, have threaded sections extending from a head and fitted with a nut. A rigid fast connection between the rod and a member providing high adhesion is ensured by a fastener for clamping the rod owing to the screwing of the nut. The fastener comprises a first bore sliding on the rod, a slit opening into the first bore and narrowed by nut screwing, and a second bore passing through the slit and passed through by the threaded section. An indented plate, or a bar with threaded ends fitted with hooks transversely stabilizes two consolidation rods. A connector longitudinally stabilizes two consolidation rods.

  • Patent number: 4957501
Abstract: The filter is particularly for implantation in the interior vena cava by sliding through a small sized catheter of type 7F, so as to arrest the migration of all thrombi of dangerous size. The filter comprises a flexible wire having been subjected to a primitive predeformation into first and second substantially flat superposed loops. The loops are substantially symmetrical respectively with regard to two axes which are substantially orthogonal and convergent at a center of the filter. These loops can be elliptic and inscribed in a square, thus providing four contact points with the venous wall, which are in two-to-two symmetry with regard to the center on the longitudinal axis of the vein, which gives the filter high stability in the vein.

  • Patent number: 4490497
Abstract: A component system for surgical cement, based on at least one acrylic monomer and at least one acrylic polymer comprising a powder and a liquid. The powder comprises: (a) from 50 to 70 weight percent of at least one acrylic polymer having a particle size of between 20 and 150 microns; and (b) a polymerization initiator. The liquid comprises: (a) from 30 to 50 weight percent of a mixture comprising at least 65 weight percent of at least one acrylic monomer and up to 35 weight percent of at least one acrylic polymer; (b) at least one polymerization activator; and (c) from 0.05 to 1 weight percent, relative to the total amount of acrylic monomer, of at least one chain stopper chosen from the group consisting of diunsaturated monocyclic terpenes and monounsaturated bicyclic terpenes. Application to the manufacture of surgical cements.
