  • Publication number: 20140329983
Abstract: Process for the manufacture of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), comprising step 1): subjecting 1,2-dichloroethane (EDC) to pyrolysis in order to generate a gas mixture comprising VCM, hydrochloric acid (HCl), and EDC; step 2): quenching and/or cooling and/or condensing such gas mixture to a liquid+gas mixture; step 3): subjecting such liquid+gas mixture to a first separation step to remove substantially all the HCl from the liquid+gas mixture so as to leave a stream consisting substantially of VCM and EDC; and step 4): subjecting such VCM+EDC stream to a second separation step so as to get a stream of substantially pure VCM and a stream of unconverted EDC, wherein a heat exchanger is used to heat up the VCM+EDC stream prior to being fed to a distillation column in step 4), such heat exchanger being powered by a stream of hot fluid available in any one of steps 2) to 4) of the process.

  • Patent number: 8173855
Abstract: Process for the production of ethylene for chemical use starting with a hydrocarbon source according to which: a) the hydrocarbon source is subjected to a first cracking step, namely a pyrolysis step carried out in a cracking oven, thus producing a mixture of cracking products; b) the mixture of cracking products is subjected to a succession of treatment steps, including a compression step, which makes it possible to obtain a purified crude gas stream; c) the purified crude gas stream is then cooled to a temperature where hydrocarbons with 6 and more carbon atoms condense so that they can be removed from the purified crude gas stream; d) the resulting purified gas stream is afterwards supplied to one separating column, where a fraction A containing hydrogen, methane and ethylene is separated at the head of the column and a heavy fraction C is separated at the bottom of the column; e) a part of the reflux of this column is supplied to a refrigeration cycle leading to a fraction B enriched with ethylene; and f)

  • Patent number: 8049047
Abstract: Process for the manufacture of 1,2-dichloroethane (DCE) starting with a hydrocarbon source which is subjected to a cracking thus producing a mixture of cracking products then subjected to treatment steps to obtain a mixture of products containing ethylene. The mixture is afterwards subjected to a first separation step into a fraction enriched with the compounds that are lighter than ethylene containing some of the ethylene conveyed to a chlorination reactor in which most of the ethylene is converted to DCE, and into a fraction F1 which is subjected to a second separation step into a fraction F2 and into a heavy fraction. Fraction F2 is afterwards subjected to a third separation step into a fraction enriched with ethylene conveyed to an oxychlorination reactor in which most of the ethylene is converted to DCE, and into a fraction F3 mainly composed of ethane.

  • Publication number: 20110082267
Abstract: Process for the manufacture of 1,2-dichlorethane and of at least one ethylene derivative compound which is different from 1,2-dichloroethane starting with a hydrocarbon source according to which: a) the hydrocarbon source is subjected to a simplified cracking which produces a mixture of products containing ethylene and other constituents; b) the mixture of products is separated at least into a fraction A enriched with compounds which are lighter than ethylene, containing part of the ethylene, into a fraction B enriched with ethylene and into a heavy fraction C; and c) one fraction among fraction A and fraction B is conveyed to the manufacture of 1,2-dichloroethane and optionally of any compound derived therefrom, optionally after having been subjected to an acetylene hydrogenation, while the other fraction is conveyed to the manufacture of at least one ethylene derivative compound manufactured directly starting with ethylene which is different from 1,2-dichloroethane and optionally of any compound derived the
