  • Patent number: 6076677
Abstract: There is provided a packaging system which includes a shipping container, such as a corrugated box, and an inflatable packaging cushion of flexible material adapted to be at least partially charged with filler medium and adapted to the shape and dimension of said packaging container. The inflatable cushion has corners and an internal opening capable of receiving the article to be protected such that the sides and ends of the article are completely encircled within protecting portions of the cushion. The top and bottom of the article are protected by a first pair of inflatable arms extending inwardly into the area of the internal opening and adapted to be positioned above and in contact with said article and a second pair of inflatable arms adapted to be positioned underneath and in contact with said article.

  • Patent number: 5862914
Abstract: There is provided an inflatable packaging cushion for protecting an article and adapted to the shape and dimensions of an enclosed container. The inflatable packaging cushion has a plurality of inflatable chambers such that the sides and corners of the article are cushioned by the inflatable chambers. The inflatable chambers are interconnected through tie straps whereby at least one tie strap connects each chamber to an adjacent chamber. Each inflatable chamber includes a filling means for at least partially inflating each chamber with a filler medium. The inflatable chambers may assume various forms, depending on the shape of the article to be cushioned and the enclosed container. Additionally, there is provided a shipping container which includes a box and an inflatable packaging cushion for protecting an article adapted to the shape and dimensions of the box.

  • Patent number: 5830780
Abstract: There is provided a self-sealing valve structure. The structure has a first sheet of thermoplastic material and a second sheet of thermoplastic material in face-to-face relationship with each other and are secured together along a portion of the longitudinal edges of the sheets and define a passageway therebetween. In one embodiment, the passageway has an air inlet end and an air outlet end. The air outlet end has at least a pair of air outlets located at each of the longitudinal edges of the valve and directing the incoming air through each of the longitudinal edges near the outlet end of said valve. The air outlets are formed by an air deflector blocking the end of the outlet which is preferably of a U-shape or a V-shape. In another embodiment, the passageway directs air through only one longitudinal edge of the valve.

  • Patent number: 5803263
Abstract: Inflatable packaging cushion (100).According to the invention, the inflatable cushion includes:an external peripheral edge (101) adapted to the shape and to the dimension of a packaging receptacle,at least one internal opening (102, 102') capable of receiving at least one object to be packaged,a plurality of recesses (103, 103') extending from each internal opening towards the peripheral edge, the recesses delimiting in pairs wedging parts (104, 105, 106, 107, 104', 105', 106', 107') capable of coming into contact with the object, zones for preferential pivoting (108) of the wedging parts being defined between the recesses and the peripheral edge, the wedging parts being able to pivot during the inflating about the preferential pivoting zones in order to vary the size and/or the shape of each internal opening and to adapt it to objects of different sizes, whilst exerting a holding pressure on the object or objects.Application to the packaging of objects of different sizes and/or shapes.

  • Patent number: 5620096
Abstract: There is provided an inflatable cushion inflated through a single inflation valve and having a pocket. The inflatable packaging cushion is made of flexible thermoplastic material adapted to be at least partially charged with air and including a containment portion, an article-holding portion, a hinged portion interconnected to the padded portion and the padded portion. A pocket is formed integrally with the article-holding portion for holding an article. There are a plurality of internal openings in the hinged portion to facilitate the containment portion being folded over the article-holding portion. The containment portion protecting the article folds across and covers a major portion of the top of the article which is in the pouch of the article-holding portion. The containment portion has an internal opening in the middle thereof formed by a seam. The opening prevents over-inflation of the containment portion and keeps that portion from becoming too bulky.
