    Abstract: An emergency illumination device includes a housing. The emergency illumination device is arranged to include a light source and a power supply. The emergency illumination device further includes a motion detector to generate a motion signal when motion is detected. The emergency illumination device is arranged to switch on the light source when a motion signal is generated by the motion detector. The housing includes a first outer surface arranged to support the emergency illumination device when positioned on a bearing surface. The motion detector generates a motion detection plane that is substantially perpendicular with respect to the first outer surface.
