  • Patent number: 6463669
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for checking the shape of a part having a portion which is a cylinder of revolution around an axis and a reference end face. The apparatus includes a base and a support arrangement mounted on the base for receiving the cylinder portion and comprising two V-shaped pieces. A positioning arrangement is provided for positioning the part axially with respect to the reference end face. A mechanism is provided for driving the part in rotation about the axis. The positioning arrangement comprises a rectilinear portion with an hemispheric end providing an abutment for the end face. The rectilinear portion is mounted slidingly on the base along a direction which forms, with respect to the axis, an angle corresponding to the half of the angle of the V-shaped pieces. An adjustment means is provided for adjusting the position of the rectilinear portion in a manner which maintains the abutment point of the hemispheric end with the end face on the axis.

  • Patent number: 5865667
Abstract: The part (1) to be machined, which exhibits an axis of revolution (aa') is secured in a rotatable spindle (11) forming part of a headstock (10) movable in translation on the framework of the grinding machine according to a longitudinal axis (X) parallel to the axis of revolution (aa'). A support (16) fixed to the framework and in the immediate proximity of which is arranged a grindstone (18), serves as lateral support to a portion of the part (1) to be machined. Grinding of the part (1) by the grindstone (18) over an arbitrary length capable of exceeding 1000 times its diameter, is effected by displacing the headstock (10) by such length in the sense of the longitudinal axis (X).

  • Patent number: 5004930
Abstract: The invention concerns a method of precisely setting a workpiece (3) having a non-circular contour in a predetermined angular position. The workpiece (3) is placed in the path of a mobile laser beam (F) produced by a laser generator (10) and sweeping an area (P) in which the workpiece produces a shaded zone (Z) whose width (L) depends on the orientation of the workpiece. The width (L) is measured by a laser receiver (11) and the workpiece is turned until the measured width reaches a reference value (L1) when the workpiece is in the desired predetermined position. This method is advantageously used for angularly positioning, with a precision of about a 6 minute arc, a roughly-cut drill bit in a grinding machine for sharpening its tip.

  • Patent number: 4607971
Abstract: In order to prevent expensive subsequent damage because of a shaft fracture in machines which are coupled together, one of the two shaft ends is provided outside of one coupling flange with a predetermined breaking point. At one coupling flange a safety element is mounted which extends past the axial length of the predetermined breaking point. The safety element can be constructed as a pin rotatably mounted inside the shaft end or as a safety ring mounted around the shaft end to hold a fractured shaft in the predetermined position until standstill without it being possible for the shaft to be deflected.
