  • Publication number: 20060244221
Abstract: A hydrodynamic magnetic seal includes a magnetic mating ring and a sealing ring attracted to the magnetic mating ring. The magnetic mating ring and/or the sealing ring include hydrodynamic grooves configured to create a separation film between the magnetic mating ring and the sealing ring to reduce friction.

  • Patent number: 6866114
Abstract: A vehicle transmission comprising a vehicle chassis (10), a hub unit (20) for a driven wheel; a chassis mounted drive motor assembly (11) individual to the hub unit and pivoted to the chassis about an axis (12) passing through or adjacent to the center of gravity of the motor assembly; a shaft assembly connecting the drive motor assembly to a rotatable part (25) of the hub unit and comprising a shaft (31) connected to a fixed, constant-velocity, universal joint (26) at the outboard end of the shaft which is drivingly connected to the rotatable part of the hub unit; a wheel suspension (22, 23) connected between a non-rotatable part (21) of the hub unit and the chassis (10); and a rigid tube (19) connnecting the non-rotatable part of the hub unit to the motor assembly, the non-rotatable part (21) of the hub unit being pivotally mounted with respect tot the tube about the center of articulation of the universal joint and the shaft lying within said tube and being rigidly connected to the motor assembly.

  • Publication number: 20030015360
Abstract: An electric motor assembly including a hub, a wheel rim having a rotary axis mounted on the hub to be rotatable about the rotary axis, a sun gear fixed to the hub or an annulus gear fixed to the rim, two or more electric motors each having a stator and a rotor, the rotors being rotatable about rotary axes parallel to the rotary axis of the rim, the stators of the motors being fixed to the rim if a sun gear is provided or fixed to the hub if an annulus gear is provided and being spaced apart equi-angularly around the rotary axis of the rim, and a planet gear driven by each rotor, each planet gear engaging the sun gear or the annulus gear whereby, when the rotors rotate, the rim is rotated on the hub about its rotary axis.

  • Patent number: 6405760
Abstract: An accumulator including a housing with a gas chamber and a liquid chamber therein. A primary piston is moveable in the housing and connected to the housing by a primary bellows sealing the gas chamber with respect to the liquid chamber. A secondary piston is moveable with respect to the primary piston and connected to the primary piston by a secondary bellows sealing the secondary piston with respect to the primary piston.

  • Patent number: 4842255
Abstract: A system for cooling non-ferrous metal dross comprises an open-top metal pan to receive the dross which pan is divided by internal partitions into open-top compartments and has sufficient heat capacity to act as a heat sink to absorb heat from the dross, and a hood shaped to fit over the pan when filled with dross to form a substantially closed cavity round the pan. An inert gas such as argon is introduced into this cavity to displace oxygen and reduce the extent of oxidation of residual metal in the dross.

  • Patent number: 4744721
Abstract: A turbopump sealing device is mounted in a case concentric with the rotary shaft between the turbine and the pump, the case defining a cavity for pressurizing gas, defined on the turbine side by a bearing ring which is integral therewith, in contact with a first floating ring secured against rotation and, on the pump side, by an applied shell one face of which is in contact with a second floating ring secured against rotation, itself bearing on a friction ring integral with the shaft, such rings being mounted on a socket concentric with the shaft, the shell being further connected to the cavity by a bellows.
