  • Publication number: 20230106078
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a wheel hub bearing unit includes providing a bearing ring having at least one raceway surface, the bearing ring preferably being a bearing outer ring which is preferably formed of a steel having a carbon content of between about 0.55% by weight and 0.60% by weight. The bearing ring is carbonitrided within a furnace having an enclosed atmosphere containing ammonia gas. The bearing ring is then tempered by heating the ring to at least five hundred degrees Celsius (500° F.). Next, the induction hardening the at least one raceway surface of the ring is induction hardened, preferably by means of special inductor coil. Finally, the raceway surface(s) of the ring is machined to desired final dimensions and surface finish.

  • Patent number: 11001099
Abstract: A vehicle wheel hub assembly includes an outer member configured to be mounted to a non-rotatable portion of the vehicle and an inner member rotatably supported in the outer member by a bearing. An annular target body is coupled to the inner member. A first magnetic target track is disposed on the annular target body, and a first sensor is located adjacent to the first magnetic target track and configured to sense angular displacement of the first magnetic target track and to produce a first output signal. A second magnetic target track is disposed on the annular target body, and the second magnetic target track is spaced from the first magnetic target track. A second sensor is located adjacent to the second magnetic target track for sensing angular displacement of the second target track and is configured to produce a second output signal.

  • Patent number: 7220058
Abstract: A bearing unit comprises a radially outer stationary race (1) and a pair of radially inner rotatable half-races (2a, 2b). An intermediate annular chamber (8) is defined between the outer race (1) and the inner half-races. The intermediate chamber communicates with the outside through first air passages (5) formed in the outer race and with the inside of the bearing unit through second radial air passages (6) defined between the inner half-races. The second passages (6) are defined by an intermediate annular member (10) which is axially interposed between the inner half-races (2a, 2b) and forms one or more blade surfaces (12a, 12b) extending from the second passage (6) to the intermediate chamber (8) for capturing air from the intermediate chamber and conveying it into the second passage.

  • Patent number: 6955201
Abstract: A hollow suspension standard (20) of a vehicle equipped with a system for supplying pressurized air to a tire through the hub of the wheel has an inner cavity (22) and a seat (21) for housing a wheel hub bearing unit (10). The standard (20) forms a first passage (23) for establishing fluid communication between the inner cavity (22) and the hub-bearing unit (10), and a second passage (24) establishing fluid communication between the inner cavity (22) and a source of pressurized air mounted on board of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6896413
Abstract: A bearing unit comprises an outer stationary race (1) with a first inner passage (6) for the air, and two axially adjacent inner half-races (2a, 2b) rotatable with the hub of a wheel. Formed between the inner half-races are essentially radial second inner air passages (7, 71, 72). These passages have surfaces (71d, 72d) inclined forwardly with respect to a direction of rotation (A, B) so as to favor the air flow through the rotating part of the bearing.
