Patent number: 6705658Abstract: A vehicle seat assembly includes a vehicle floor having a stowage cavity formed therein, and a collapsible seat pivotally connected to the vehicle and positioned on the vehicle floor adjacent the stowage cavity. The collapsible seat is pivotable from an upright position into a collapsed position within the stowage cavity. The assembly further includes a sliding cover positioned on the vehicle floor and selectively slidable between a first position beneath the collapsible seat when the collapsible seat is in the upright position and a second position covering the stowage cavity. The sliding cover is operative as a vehicle load floor when in the second position.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2003Date of Patent: March 16, 2004Assignee: Lear CorporationInventors: Roman Jach, Michelle Girolamo, Chuck Patterson

Publication number: 20030193205Abstract: A collapsible seat assembly includes first and second risers supported on a vehicle floor. The first and second movable supports are pivotally connected to the first and second risers, respectively, by first and second parallelogram linkages. Each movable support has a front end and a rear end. A lower seat cushion pan is pivotally connected to the front ends of the movable supports. A seat back and recliner mechanism is pivotally connected to the rear ends of the movable supports. The lower seat cushion pan and seat back are pivotally collapsible forward to substantially horizontal positions in which they are substantially flush and parallel with each other to maximize cargo space in the vehicle.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 29, 2003Publication date: October 16, 2003Applicant: Lear CorporationInventors: Roman Jach, Michelle Girolamo, Chuck Patterson

Patent number: 6457694Abstract: A seat assembly including a vehicle seat and a system for rotating a vehicle seat are provided wherein the system is designed to carry integrated seat restraint loads. The seat includes a base having a lower base section and an upper base section which supports the vehicle seat on an upper surface thereof. A reversible DC motor and a transmission including a drive screw are supported on the lower base section. A flexible cable couples an output shaft of the DC motor to the drive screw which rotates about a horizontal axis upon actuation of the DC motor. The transmission also includes a drive nut threadedly mounted on the drive screw to move along the substantially horizontal axis upon actuation of the motor. The transmission further includes a link coupled to the upper base section and the drive nut to transmit linear motion of the drive nut to rotary motion of the upper base section.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2000Date of Patent: October 1, 2002Assignee: Lear CorporationInventors: Ian D. Patent number: 6145910Abstract: A method of fastening a seat to a vehicle floor having preexisting seat mounting locations includes providing a seat having a frame with mounting locations different from the preexisting mounting locations of the vehicle floor. An adapter bracket is provided having first mounting locations corresponding to the mounting locations of the vehicle floor and second mounting locations corresponding to the mounting locations of the frame of the seat. The adapter bracket is secured to the vehicle floor. The frame of the seat is secured to the adapter bracket, thereby fastening the seat to the vehicle floor. A method of installing various panels over a framework of a vehicle interior is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1999Date of Patent: November 14, 2000Assignee: Lear CorporationInventors: Jason Paul Baldas, Gerald Oscar Morrison, Kevin Gasparotto, Robert John Dowell, Eileen Marie Avram, Michelle Girolamo

Patent number: 6056366Abstract: A vehicle set back frame that is lightweight and sufficiently rigid to be incorporated in an all-belts-to-seat seat belt mechanism. A seat back shaped back frame is C-shaped in cross-section and wrapped with a load-transfer panel and a lumbar panel to form a box frame which houses seat belt retractors and resists back frame deformation due to frontal impact of the vehicle. A method of distributing seat belt loads is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1999Date of Patent: May 2, 2000Assignee: Lear CorporationInventors: Ian Haynes, Michelle Girolamo, John P.
