Abstract: A system and method operable on an electronic device that has mechanical buttons for navigation functions. The mechanical buttons have default configurations for their associated navigation functions, e.g., page forward, page back. The system and method allow the user to change navigation functions associated with the mechanical buttons to suit her use of the device. Specifically, the system and method has a Setting screen, that allows the user to chose the navigational directions associated with the mechanical buttons. These user selections are stored in the device and are used to configure the operation of the mechanical buttons for the present an subsequent uses of the device.
