    Abstract: According to one aspect of an exemplary embodiment of the disclosure, a system and method for providing an indication of the mode of operation of an X-ray imaging system operable in a fixed mode or an automatic optimization of parameter (AOP) mode, and an operational mode indication system including at least one of a visual indicator and an audio indicator. The selection of an operational mode for the X-ray system enables a control processing unit to activate the operational mode indication system in a first manner and in a second manner at least during the operation of the radiation source and the detector to provide an indication of a current mode of operation of the imaging system, wherein the first manner is readily discernable from the second manner.
