  • Patent number: 11408242
Abstract: A sacrificial shroud is disposed over a packing element of a downhole packer to provide isolation from incompatible wellbore fluids and to minimize a tendency for swabbing or packer preset due to fluid flow past the packing element during run-in, thereby allowing for faster run-in speeds. The shroud may be depletive or consumable, such as by dissolution into a wellbore fluid or by melting at a predetermined downhole thermodynamic condition. The shroud may take the form of a sleeve or an applied coating.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 22, 2016
Date of Patent: August 9, 2022
    Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.
Inventors: Matthew Bradley Stokes, Michelle Brianne Henckel

  • Patent number: 8550177
Abstract: Packer assemblies capable of providing desired load-bearing performance and of being retrieved from a bore in a subterranean formation are described. A packer assembly can include a wedge that can respond to a force in a downhole direction by un-supporting the slip. The unsupported slip is configured to disengage from a casing string, allowing the packer assembly to be removed from the bore. The wedge can include a collet to allow the wedge to separate from the slip to prevent slip re-setting.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 25, 2011
Date of Patent: October 8, 2013
    Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.
Inventors: Michelle Brianne Henckel, Beauford Sean Mallory, Jody Ray McGlothen
