  • Patent number: 6936693
Abstract: Nucleic acid molecules from nematodes encoding PAN and ZP domain containing receptor polypeptides are described. PANZP polypeptide sequences are also provided, as are vectors, host cells, and recombinant methods for production of PANZP nucleotides and polypeptides. Also described are screening methods for identifying inhibitors and/or activators, as well as methods for antibody production.

  • Patent number: 6903052
Abstract: The invention concerns the use of certain compounds related to fatty acids to control nematodes that infest plants or the situs of plants. Nematodes that parasitize animals can also be controlled using the methods and composition of this invention. Certain of the useful compounds are fatty acid esters that are predicted inhibitors of nematode delta-12 fatty acid desaturases and can be, for example, from C16 to C20 in length.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 1, 2002
Date of Patent: June 7, 2005
    Assignee: Divergence, Inc.
Inventors: Deryck J. Williams, Andrew P. Kloek, Michelle Coutu Hresko
  • Patent number: 6887900
Abstract: The invention concerns the use of certain compounds related to fatty acids to control nematodes that infest plants or the situs of plants. Nematodes parasitizing animals can also be controlled using the methods and composition of this invention. The useful compounds are inhibitors of nematode delta-12 fatty acid desaturases and can be, for example, from C16 to C20 in length. A feature of these compounds is that their inhibitory effect on the activity of a nematode delta-12 desaturase, or on the viability or fecundity of a nematode, is smaller in the presence of the product of a delta-12 fatty acid desaturase (e.g., linoleate) than in the presence of the substrate of the enzyme (e.g., oleate).

  • Publication number: 20040168213
Abstract: The present invention provides DNA constructs, transgenic plants containing such constructs, and methods of making the plants. The DNA constructs encode a polypeptide that when expressed results in the production of fatty acid compounds having anthelmintic activity. Transgenic plants expressing such a polypeptide can exhibit enhanced resistance to plant parasitic nematodes, particularly when expressed in vegetative tissues.
