  • Publication number: 20100055415
Abstract: A system and method create an authentication mark on a recording medium by depositing marking material on a medium in an image area to create a marking material image and to create a marking material authentication image. The marking material comprises an ultraviolet curable phase change ink composition comprising an optional colorant and a phase change ink vehicle comprising a radiation curable monomer or prepolymer; a photoinitiator; a reactive wax; and a gellant. • Publication number: 20100021698
Abstract: A method of controlling gloss of an image includes forming an image over a substrate by applying a colored or colorless composition, included a colored ink and/or a colorless overcoat composition, over one or more portions of the substrate, wherein the colored or colorless composition includes at least one gellant, at least one curable monomer, at least one curable wax and optionally at least one photoinitiator, wherein the colored or colorless composition is curable upon exposure to radiation, and curing the colored or colorless composition following application by applying radiation to the colored or colorless composition and, during the curing, controlling an amount of oxygen present in an atmosphere around the image.

  • Publication number: 20090317559
Abstract: A method of controlling gloss of an image includes determining a desired gloss of an image; in an overcoat composition of at least one gellant, at least one curable monomer, at least one curable wax and optionally at least one photoinitiator, wherein the overcoat composition is curable upon exposure to radiation, setting the amount of at least one curable wax to include in the overcoat composition based on the determined desired gloss; preparing the overcoat composition to contain the set amount of the at least one curable wax; applying the overcoat composition over a substrate; and applying radiation to substantially cure the overcoat composition.

  • Publication number: 20090301344
Abstract: A method of forming bimetallic core-shell metal nanoparticles including a core of a first metal material and a shell of a second metal material, the method including photochemically producing metallic nanoparticle cores of the first metal material, and forming a shell of the second metal material around the cores. The shell can be formed by adding shell-forming precursor materials to a solution or suspension of the cores and photochemically forming the shells around the cores, or by separately photochemically producing metallic nanoparticles of the second metal material and mixing the metallic nanoparticles of the second metal material and the metallic nanoparticle cores to cause the metallic nanoparticles of the second metal material to form a shell around the metallic nanoparticle cores.
