Abstract: A ladder safety mat for securing the base of a ladder to a supporting surface including a flexible body having a first surface and a second surface, the second surface providing a frictional resistance to the supporting surface; and two open vertical sockets located on the first surface and spaced apart from each other for accepting in each the lower end of a stile from the ladder, wherein the body and the vertical sockets are one molded piece. In another embodiment, the ladder safety mat includes a retaining ridge extending upward from the top surface of the ladder safety mat for retaining the lower ends of the stiles of the ladder. In yet another embodiment, the ladder safety mat includes recessed sockets for retaining the lower ends of the stiles of the ladder.
