Abstract: A method and apparatus for suppressing subsequent re-request of a location request, for example a MO-LR request in a GSM communication system, by a mobile station (MS) (110) to the network. The method in the mobile station comprises transmitting (302) a location request message to a network. Then, at the MS, determining (304) that the network can not provide the requested location information. Creating (306) an indicator in a memory of the device that the network is not capable of providing the requested location information and finally suspending (308) subsequent transmission of location request message to the network.

Abstract: A method and controller is provided for selecting between a plurality of different position determination approaches, where in at least some instances a selection is made between multiple mobile station based location determination approaches, as well as in other instances additional network based location determination approaches. In at least some instances, the selection between available mobile station based location determination approaches is based upon the availability and/or the receipt of assistance data from the network.

Abstract: A method and system of providing a log of mobile station geographic location requests is useful for protecting the privacy of mobile station users. The method is performed on a mobile station and includes receiving in the mobile station a location request from a requestor, the location request seeking the geographic location of the mobile station. It is then determined whether the location request is a Mobile Terminated Location Request (MTLR), a Network Initiated Location Request (NILR), or a Mobile Originated Location Request (MOLR). Log information about the location request is then stored and it is determined whether the mobile station has local privacy settings that apply uniquely to the requestor. The location request is then responded to in accordance with local privacy settings, and log information about the response to the location request is stored.
